My first time going to Nan Xiang near St. Marks street and the atmosphere here is pretty chill. They were open pretty late on a weekday night which was perfect. We were a group of three and I ordered the vegetable soup which came with woodear mushrooms and another type of mushroom, and lots of other vegetables. It was a big portion so if you’re a soup fan you would love this. It wasn’t spicy enough for me but it had good flavor. Me and my friend enjoyed this. We also ordered the sweet and sour fried flounder and it came out hot, perfect crisp and very tasty. We ordered also the broccoli with garlic sauce. Which came with broccoli and what looked like just garlic on top not your typical brown garlic sauce. But it did have some type of garlicky sauce on top. Very flavorful even though it was different than I expected it to be. And lastly, I wanted to try durian puffs. Yes they have it in their menu. For those of you who never tried durian fruit or heard of it. It has a very off putting smell like rotten fruit and even worse but my curiosity got the best of me. If you are not used to funky flavors, textures and the like, this dish may not be for you. It is definitely for someone with a broader palate. When u told them I wasn’t feeling it the waitress offered to substitute with something else which I appreciate. We didn’t substitute it but it just goes to show you this may not be the first time a customer reacted the way I did, and I appreciate her willingness to help us have a great experience. The food was solid. The soup was good. Nothing wowed me though. But I...
Read moreIf you're thinking about visiting here for soup dumplings.. run, don't walk. This place is a Michelin-recommended restaurant, and we had no idea until we sat down and looked at the menu. We only came because we were craving some authentic Chinese soup dumplings. Easy to walk to, and we came around 5:30p on a Sunday in March. We were sat immediately. My partner and I both ordered 1 order each of their Lucky Six Soup Dumpling which include 1 of each: Pork soup dumpling, crab meat and pork soup dumpling, truffle & pork soup dumpling (black), chicken soup dumpling (yellow), scallop and pork soup dumpling (pink), and gourd luffa shrimp and pork soup dumpling (green). My favorite was the gourd luffa shrimp and pork dumpling, and the truffle dumpling. We also shared their Pork & Veg Wontons in Spicy Peanut Sauce and the sauce was mouth watering. We couldn't have been more impressed. We left happy and content.. that at 10p the same day we came back- and order 2 orders of just their truffle and pork soup dumplings. And it was just as tasty as earlier in the day. We also shared Shanghai Stir-Fried Udon and it has a smokey taste to it that I loved. I highly recommend this place, and will...
Read moreI heard this place had amazing soup dumplings, so I had to check it out. Reservations were booked for dinner for over a week so we chose to try and lunchtime, which seemed to work out better. We started with spring rolls, which I thought were really good, wonton soup, pork buns and Shanghai Siu Mai, which I really did not like. It was something about the flavors inside and the texture that just did not go well. The wonton suit was a big portion so I would definitely share that. We did really like the flavors, though and the broth was really good. I thought the pork buns were just OK. They’re a nice size, but the filling isn’t as sweet as you would normally imagine, however, they were good and I would recommend them. We wanted to get a mix of dumplings to have the chance to taste a variety of flavors. I thought they were pretty good, but they seemed a little big and it made it hard to eat them. I think I prefer a slightly smaller dumpling that you can put in your mouth all at once to fill that burst of liquid come out, but these were a little thick and a little big for me. Overall, I would recommend this place, but I’m not sure it was the best...
