Brandon's Donuts — Restaurant in New York

Stopped by on a chilly weekday afternoon and the donut was the perfect pick-me-up. I like that their donuts are the old fashioned/cake style instead of the heavier yeast ones other shops make, and I also like that they just stick to two main flavors: original and chocolate. From there you can customize with different drizzles and toppings to get the exact combination you want.

I went for a chocolate donut topped with blueberry sauce and Fruity Pebbles, which worked surprisingly well with the different textures in each bite and the slight tartness of the drizzle balancing out the sweetness. The cereal toppings give it a nice hit of childhood nostalgia; the net effect was somewhere between how you remember Little Debby's Brownies tasting (instead of how they actually taste) and biting into the homemade cupcakes your 5th grade classmate brought to school on their birthday.

All of which is to say -- I uh...like donuts a lot, and these are very much worth the visit. Hope they stick around, given how tough it might be to open a new...

I would like to give a very special thank you to Edgar. This year my twins turned double digits. Through all the craziness of the pandemic we couldn't celebrate this milestone with the party they each wanted. Of course, we celebrated virtually but it was a bit different. However, one thing my kids truly wanted to do to make their birthday extra special was give each of their online birthday guests a donut from Brandon's. It was a little tricky because we needed to drive all over giving donuts but had to make it back in time for their party. Edgar made it happen for us. We made arrangements to be at Brandon's earlier. He allowed us to pick up donuts before the store opened. He went above and beyond to make my kids unbelievably happy. He worked hard and made every donut beautiful and tasteful. Fluffy and cakey donuts at reasonable Brooklyn prices ($3/donut). Choice of regular or chocolate batter for the donut. Choice of about 6 icings (blueberries, chocolate, birthday cake, etc) which are all in liquid bottle format (expect a dripping icing, not thick and holding onto the top of the donut) and add toppings. Some "specialty donuts" also available already done Quick to order and pay We had a chocolate donut, the batter is great and raises well. We chose birthday cake icing for my spouse's birthday but it tasted lemony. Slightly disappointing on that front. Kids were excited and running in and out of the shop. Would be nice to offer donut holes for kids. All together it is a good addition and variety to Court street for family hangouts. There are so many coffee shops around that it pleases...
