Cafe is beautifully designed and a lovely place to sit. However the matcha latte I ordered was pretty bad, it was a light swampy green color instead of a vibrant green color that is indicative of good matcha. The taste was very bland, hardly had any tea flavor at all, and was just very disappointing. When I asked the barista to adjust the drink, she added more matcha powder without an issue, but before handing it to me, she insisted I pay an additional $2 for the adjustment. She explained that they use 2 teaspoons of powder for every cup of matcha and I was asking for too much. I refused to pay more for to fix the drink I ordered, since typically you would not pay to fix the business’ error. I ended up getting a refund instead, even though the drink was already adjusted and sitting behind the counter. It was thrown away… This felt like pure pettiness to me and left a bad taste in my mouth (literally).
Having just traveled to Japan and had many authentic and delicious matcha lattes, here is my suggestion: increase the ratio of matcha to milk even if you must charge more money. 2 tsp of matcha per 16 oz of liquid is not enough. Recipes online call for 3 tsp of high quality matcha per 8 oz of liquid. If the powder is a swamp green color, it should not be used for drinking. This is why some people think matcha tastes like seaweed or fish, because they are being served low grade matcha. Can you imagine if $6 coffee were made so carelessly?
Lastly, it feels punitive to charge people for adjustments to drinks that fell short of their expectations, especially to mention it after the drink had already been fixed. This is not the kind of treatment I have received at other businesses and is really...
Read moreListen… I’ve been frequenting this little coffee shop for the better part of two years. But I have to finally review and say that the entitlement of a dog owners and how the café allows so many dogs inside of a small place where people are eating is getting far out of hand. I came in this morning to get my regular coffee and a sandwich and there were four dogs inside the cafe, two dogs were on a long lead and walking around under tables while their owners stood in line. I also noticed there was a dog hair clumps on the stand where you get napkins and straws. Another time recently I was working in the morning on my laptop and they were two dogs barking at each other for the better part of 4/5 minutes inside of the café. How is this not a serious health code violation? Not to mention some people are seriously allergic to dogs. And why are so many dogs allowed in a space where food is being prepared, served and consumed. I really hope the owner reads this review and considers revising their...
Read moreWe are tourists in New York and decided to visit this café on October 26, 2024, between 9 and 10 am. This breakfast was quite important to us—my mom, my sister and I haven't seen each other in several years and have only a few days together—but unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. Despite the café having a pleasant atmosphere and being a comfortable place to sit, several issues marred our experience.
They directly asked us if we wanted to eat here or not, and we said we did, yet they still served us drinks in paper cups. The café wasn't even that busy, yet we waited a very long time for our food, and by then, our coffee had already cooled down. The coffee was a bit too bitter, and the employee who served us didn't know why their café is named the way it is (it has an interesting name). Overall , the time here was disappointing... I won't recommend it. And I regret they took our tips...
