Tend Greenpoint — Local services in New York

I showed the measurements of my plant and planter it came in and the woman suggested a 10” planter. I bought that plus the plate for the bottom for an extra $20 gloves. I picked out an 12” terracotta planter and the woman said it was too large, you’ll be fine with the 10”. So I take the 10” and get home to realize the roots were still showing. Mind you, I showed her the exact measurements as listed on Amazon complete with diagram (because I’m a novice). My total was $105.06. I go to exchange the planter for a larger one, the original terracotta I had picked out, and she said “oh it is too small” and went to get the terracotta. The owner stopped her in her tracks and said sorry sir we can’t do that. I am not allowed to because I have a NYS license. The best I can do, is give you 10% on another but I can’t replace this one because it’s already potted EVEN THOUGH IT WAS THEIR MISTAKE. She was going to replace it until he stepped in! And she suddenly says, “it actually fits” and changed her tune. I spent a total of around $350 total, but after this, I would never recommend. I just lost $105 I could have used elsewhere. Considering taking them to small claims court (also had a witness on the phone present, who was also as confused as to why I could not...

Tend has some very nice products, and in the past I have always experienced their staff as very helpful and knowledgeable. However, while I always prefer to support small local businesses like this one, parents should be aware that this shop is not baby stroller friendly. I was told by staff that I could not take my baby stroller (with my sleeping infant) into the back part of the shop as it may impede other customers or create a fire code violation by blocking the exit at the back of the shop. I had no intention of blocking any other customers or the exit (which would indeed be inconsiderate behavior) and in any case there was only one other person in the entire shop. To be fair, the staff member offered to answer any questions and go back to get any items for me, however this was not a satisfactory solution to me as I had come specifically to pick up some herb plants and wanted to look at/select them myself. I would have understood if the staff member asked me to be careful not to block any other customers or the exit with the stroller, but instead I was simply told I could not go back there. Tend is the best plant resource you could ask for. I came in looking for a large outdoor plant with a pot, four smaller outdoor plants for a flower bed, and two indoor plants/pots. Jamen was incredible in helping me. He asked me all the right questions in terms of what I was looking for, showed me all my options, made sure I was looking at plants for the spot in my home I planned to put them, and patiently went through this process for each item I purchased. He was transparent about pricing. Once I made my choices, they lovingly potted and wrapped each plant and helped me bring them to my car, and emailed me care instructions. They told me when to come back for replanting/potting etc when needed. So knowledgeable patient and professional.
