If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I came with 2 friends that frequent this spot, 1 of my friends walked right in and we followed. My other friend and I were stopped by the bouncer, I asked what the issue was and he said he needed to check our IDs. We handed him our IDs, he gave them back and asked for $5. My friend told him we were with the DJ and the DJ said we were fine. However, the bouncer said that was only okay for my guy friend and that I still was not allowed in. Three guys close by (including the DJ) told the bouncer I was good and he proceeded to say I could not come in. He then grabbed my arm and shoved me out, I asked why and he would not say. Mind you I'm a petite woman, standing at 5'2" so there is no need to act in this way. My friend who initially got in came back and asked what the problem was but both of the bouncers refused to speak, except for saying I was not getting in. I was calm because I had no problem leaving, I just wanted to know the reason I would not be allowed in. I asked if it was because of what I was wearing (baseball cap and sneakers), no answer; I asked if he could tell me why my friends were allowed in and I wasn't, no answer, etc. These 2 huge men continued to ignore me and PUSHED me outside.
I have never been treated with such disrespect. I had high hopes for this establishment, but it is clearly trash. Do not waste your money...
Read moreBeautiful little gem of a place. I went for Jazz Night on a Wednesday and had a lovely time. The music was vibey and jazzy (hence the genre). Their cocktails are NYC pricey ($18) I had a mezcal cocktail from their menu and it was really well made with good ingredients and totally worth it. I ordered the pumpkin corn soup with a glass of riesling that paired really well together. The soup was great and the riesling was pretty good (more on the sweet than dry side) With the recommended donation for the band and gratuity I ended up spending about $70 but felt the vibe , atmosphere and the night was worth what I paid. It wasn't too crowded. They would probably do better business if they offered a sorrel sangria at half the price of their specialized cocktails which are at $18 as a lot of people are struggling these days and everything is so $$$ for everyone. Great place for a date or group of friends to share a bottle of wine. I went alone and wasn't uncomfortable. The patrons skewed on the young-ish side but there was some age diversity. I'm a mature adult and was the oldest person there but I didn't feel unwelcome. I will definitely come back for jazz night and maybe brunch if they play the kind of music they were playing in the house between the band (rare grooves like Roy Ayers and Donald...
Read moreIf my experience looked anything like the images I see associated with "cafe E" I may have given this spot more love. We went there to celebrate a friend's bday. The place was so packed, it felt like a college dorm party. We wanted to get some air and decided to go out back, It took about 10 minutes to get to the back patio which was also packed. We worked our way past the massive plume mixture of weed and cigarette smoke (so much for fresh air) that lasted a few minutes, so we decided we needed a drink to process this experience. It only took another 15 minutes to get back to the bar where we waited another 10 minutes to get a drink. To add insult to injury, there were several moments where the dj was the only person dancing to the music he was playing. In a place that packed, well above capacity, that made zero sense. Needless to say, unless you want a closed in, close quarters, sweat box, this might not...
