I love Cannelle! The pastries are soooo good and so are the sandwiches! Unfortunately, the customer service has really fallen. Almost all the employees are extremely rude and have no patience for you. On my last visit, Evelyn was so rude and disrespectful she was basically yelling at me. I bought a cake for a birthday as well as a sandwich and pastry. I asked if it was okay for her to hold the cake so we could dine in and eat the sandwich and pastry since the tables are really small and she literally started yelling at me asking why I bought the cake if I wasn’t leaving. I explained that I didn’t want them to sell out because they’re really popular and she continued to yell at me that I should’ve waited. There was no reason for the rudeness or the attitude. Once I finished dining in I purchased additional items with another employee Sarah that was very kind, friendly and helpful. I purchased additional sandwiches and asked Sarah if they could write the happy birthday on the cake in a different language and she said yes of course. When Evelyn saw me checking out again with the other employee she started yelling at me again that I was taking too long and they had a long line and I needed to hurry up. The other employee Sarah told me it was fine and not to worry she would change the writing for me. Even though I was now being helped by a different employee, Evelyn kept trying to yell at me. As soon as Sarah went to the back to change the writing she started yelling at me again. It was a...
Read moreBefore LI City, I lived in the Financial District above a Financier Patisserie. I was in heaven. We ate there every week. The coffee was good, the pastries were good, but even better, the food was good. Sandwiches, salads and pretty darn good breakfast. And, the place was quaint and pleasant and had a fountain and outdoor seating. Fast forward 3 years to LI City. We don't like Sweetleaf, the coffee or the food, so when we saw Cannelle was opening, we couldn't wait. Cannelle has not exceeded our expectations at all. It is nice to have but I long for better. The pastries are average, the deserts are average, the bread is good and the simple salami sandwich is good, we also like some of the gelato. The biggest deterrent though is the staff. They appear to be resentful, full of attitude and unbelievably slow. There will be 4 or 5 of them, yet only one appears to do anything while the others just move pastries around oblivious, or even ignoring, the customers. If you do not pay attention or defend your spot, they will take somebody else's order. This is a small, tight knit neighborhood and it is really unbelievable that the owners have not already corrected this. I have been so frustrated that I have just walked out. You could literally be the only person there and you will have to ask for help after 5 minutes of being completely ignored. Forget the berets and the outfits and get some hardworking...
Read moreMy FAVORITE bakery! This place has authentic French pastries (probably the closest to the croissants and baguettes I’ve had while in France). Saying goodbye to Cannelle when I moved out of LIC felt like a breakup...
I’ve tried many of their pastries (including their Midnight passion, lemon tart, peach tart, red velvet, praline, tiramisu, brownie, and more) and they’re all delicious.
My favorites are definitely their croissants- both the regular and chocolate are very good - the perfect balance of crunch, flakiness, and a soft buttery inside. They’re perfect with jam! (Note that the chocolate croissant does not have a TON of chocolate inside, it’s more on the minimal side.)
Their baguettes are also amazing - the bread is perfect if you are looking for bread for your charcuterie platter.
Since covid, there is also a large outdoor dining area available, although the indoor area is a good size.
Miss this place so much, if you are lucky enough to live in the area (or are just visiting) it’s absolutely worth...
