Caravan Uyghur Cuisine, conveniently located near Wall Street, is a delightful spot that showcases the rich flavors and unique offerings of authentic Uyghur cuisine. My recent visit was nothing short of spectacular, as I indulged in some of their standout dishes: Uyghur Laghman, Big Plate Chicken (大盘鸡), and Lamb Kebabs.
Starting with the Uyghur Laghman, I was immediately struck by the perfect balance of handmade noodles and rich, flavorful broth. The dish is generously topped with tender chunks of lamb, allowing its rich flavor to shine through, all complemented by a medley of fresh vegetables and aromatic spices that transported my taste buds straight to Central Asia. The texture of the noodles was impeccable, providing a delightful chew that complemented the savory sauce beautifully.
Next up was the Big Plate Chicken, a visually stunning dish that lived up to its name. Served on top of a bed of noodles, the chicken pieces were cooked to perfection, boasting a delightful crunch on the outside while remaining juicy and tender on the inside. The noodles soaked up the rich, savory sauce, creating an amazing combination of flavors that made each bite even more enjoyable. The robust flavors, combined with potatoes and chili peppers, created a harmonious blend that was both spicy and savory. It was impossible not to share this dish, as it was a feast for the eyes and the palate.
Lastly, the Lamb Kebabs were the perfect finishing touch to my meal. Grilled to perfection, these kebabs had a wonderful char that enhanced the rich flavor of the lamb. The combination of cumin, chili powder, and other unique Uyghur spices provided a tantalizing kick that made each bite deliciously satisfying. These kebabs made for a truly flavorful experience.
It’s also worth noting that Caravan Uyghur Cuisine is a halal restaurant, making it a great choice for those looking for delicious halal options.

Read moreIf you're the kind of person who needs to be catered to, and have all of your whims met by Igor staffers so that you can feel important, don't go here. It's too delicious a restaurant to waste on your ego. But we went, and initially we thought it was closed. We thought this because of the sign on the door that said closed, and the fact that no persons were visible inside. But we tried the door and it was unlocked and we walked in and asked if anyone was working that day and it turns out they were indeed open, they had just forgotten to turn the sign around. So I guess if you go and see that the sign says closed, try the handle.
I'd never eaten Uyghur food before. It's not a mistake that I'll be repeating in the future. My dish, diced noodles with lamb, tasted amazing and has a lovely blend of chewy noodles and crunchy peppers. And at $17.99, it was about as good a deal as any I would have been able to find in FiDi. I tried one of the pomegranate sodas, but I suppose it's probably an acquired taste.
The restaurant seems to be owned and operated entirely by a man and his wife, with patrons having to actively flag him down for things like water or the check or the ability to order some of his delicious food. It was completely worth it, though, and I can definitely see myself...
Read moreRare type of food to have in FiDi, flavor is okay, no decor to really talk about. Service is slow, water comes in plastic cup, food comes out slow like mentioned in other reviews. The “server” does not come by at all after dropping off the food.
Food portion is very small, I understand it’s FiDi but for the no service, no atmosphere here, the price/portion cannot be justified. The dumpling soup which was so tiny is like $20. Pilaf, with 2 pieces of meat of over $20+
I’m assuming the cashier man is the owner who does not speak a word of English took my money and did not provide change, asked for a change and he just stared at me, at the end, I did received my change. BUT what I noticed was that they charged an AUTOMATIC CREDIT CARD FEE on all sales, even if I paid with cash!!! I believe if my math is not off from the quick glance on the monitor, it’s a fat 5%!!! Be ware of this! I didn’t even bother trying to reason with him since he either pretend not to speak English or maybe he does not speak English, but he is the only person that apparently can touch the cash register where we have to go up to him to pay. And I’m never coming back and do not recommend for all of the reasons...
