Please read other 1 star reviews. You'll get exactly what I'm about to say. I've been here multiple times, and I always order the poulet roti. I was so excited until I received a piece of flat brown meat chicken with slimy, undercooked skin on top. It looked AWFUL. I can count on one hand how many times I've returned food. I am kind and generous with folx in the industry. I immediately said, "I can't eat this" to be met with some of the absolute worst customer service I've ever received. The person behind the bar (maybe the owner?) was confrontational and belittled me while forcefully telling me I needed to eat it. We proceeded to have a contentious back and forth because I'm not going to be convinced to eat something I am damn certain I don't want. He finally slammed it in the trash, told me I was wasting food, and demanded that I had to order something else because he wasn't going to take it off of the bill. I really didn't want anything else given how incredibly unpleasant he is, but he insisted and treated me like I was trying to scam him. I have to note that I didn't take ONE bite of that chicken. I chose to stay for cheese out of principle because I wasn't going to leave my money on the table. I just wanted a relaxed catchup on a Friday afternoon at a cozy local place (that before this I actually really liked), not Chickengate 2024. The service was rude,...
Read moreChateau 49 is without a doubt one of the best French Restaurants in New York City. The atosmephere is laid back and welcoming, giving the vibe of a chic restaurant in the French countryside.
The drinks are world class, made by one of the best bartenders in the city. I can highly recommend a Mezcal Old Fashioned or an Espresso Martini. The wine list is also exceptional, with a selection of around 50 wines, it will be very difficult to find any restaurant that can match the quality and amount of wine that Chateau has.
The food is absolutely incredible and a must have fir those who believe they do not like French cuisine. Before coming here, I was not a fan of snails, like most people, however one taste of the buttery and garlicky Escargots here was what changed my mind. You will never have a better escargot anywhere outside of France. The signature burger is incredible and I highly recommend it with the truffle fries. It easily gives well known burger spots like Gotham Burgers a run for the money, with the atmosphere putting them over the top.
There isna lot more I could say about this amazing little restaurant but this review is long enough as it is. I highly recommend everyone from locals to tourists come and try it out because I can promise that most who come will end up regulars,...
Read moreI walked in, the bartender said sit where you like, place was pretty empty - 6:30 on a Thursday, 9/24. I wanted to watch the tennis so I sat at a table for two that was pushed together for four, right next to a table for two. So I slide one of my tables over 2 feet so I was at a table for two and the table for 4 was empty again. The waiter came right over, moved it back and said "You can't do that."
I stood up to be out of his way, I said "I don't understand it's the same thing. I just want to see the tennis better on the TV." He said no, you can't do that. (?) They are all tables for 2 - all 3 of them ? He didn't say I'm sorry, he was very harsh, like I was a criminal for trying to sit there. I decided to walk out, he didn't say anything, like - sorry how is this seat? I think he wanted me to leave.
I see a lot of reviews citing poor service. The food is cheap for a French Rest. - maybe they can't get repeat business with poor service? Went to The Smith one block north on 2nd - excellent service, food at...
