China Xiang — Restaurant in New York

I would give China Xiang zero stars if possible for their abysmal approach to any form of customer service.

I ordered delivery using Yelp & Grubhub on Valentines Day for my wife and kids who were looking forward to Chinese food.

I placed the order with no problems at 7:25pm. Understanding that it was a busy night - I was ok with the estimated delivery window of 8:00pm - 8:15pm.

8:15 came and passed. I waited.

8:25 came and passed. I worried - but checking the app still had the order en route.

By 8:30 I reached out to Grubhub and waited on hold until they told me to contact the restaurant.

I called the restaurant several times and was constantly on hold or disconnected.

I finally got through to the restaurant around 8:55pm and they said that they canceled my order because I was in Queens!

We live in East Gramercy (less than 2.5mi away)

After arguing with the person on the phone that we were not in queens and why didn’t they or Grubhub call - they said they already canceled the order.

At approximately 9:10pm (after my call) the restaurant cancelled the order with Grubhub NOT BEFORE MY CALL!!

I’m not sure if this restaurant is good or bad. I’m not sure if it is better onsite.

But what I am sure of is THEY SUCK AT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND YOU SHOULD NEVER ORDER FROM THEM FOR DELIVERY!!!!

They RUINED our Valentine’s Day They charged me nearly $90 for food I never received I had to order food from somewhere else It took a full week for my money to be restored to my card.

It's really a surprise (good) to us that we found really decent authentic Chinese food at China Xiang in Manhattan while almost every friend told me the best Chinese food is in China Town or Flushing (we tried 2 restaurants with 4.5+ rate, neither impressed us). Now, I'll have to disagree with them. The most precious matter we enjoyed is the detail attention the chef dedicated to the food. Authetic Chinese fried rice and soup are 2 dishes show the true expertise and skills of a chef. They are so common and most of Chinese families make them often but could not make them well tasted as an experienced chef makes, but both of them are made very well here. The duck dumplings （鸭丝饺）are the best and juiciest I ever had. With a very short period we stay in NY, we have visited this restaurant twice. That itself explained a lot!Will surely visit them again and try all different dishes one by one when we are back in town in the near future. Peking duck tasted awesome! The duck skin is as crispy as it should be without unnecessary greasy feeling at all. The only thing a bit off is the bum（荷叶包）in place of the authentic skin-thin spring cake（春饼）, which I could understand it's a bit over expectation from me since it's time consuming to make from special dough, and most of Chinese restaurants offer this dish use bum. Well, the alternative bum does not hurt the overall delicious taste anyway but just different and still good. China Xiang offers amazing traditional Chinese food. They serve a large variety of dishes suited for every taste and diet. There is a cool feature on their website – small graphic tags that mark the dishes as a vegetarian (a leaf), and chili pepper (for hot). They have lots of offers in appetizers, chicken, pork, beef, seafood, soups and a lot more (their menu is just HUGE). The Dim Sum is pretty good, with the Steamed pork dumplings, the Scallion Pancake, Wonton in Chili Oil, and Steamed Crystal Shrimp Dumplings are a standout. The Hunan Special Smoked Pork is rich in taste. But there’s only one dish that’s not marked as hot, so if you’re not a fan, then you should go for the Sauteed Hunan Smoked Pork with Green Leek. The Hunan Rice Noodle has a great vegetarian offer with the Sour String Beans Hunan Noodle Soup, and meat dish – Braised Beef Flank Hunan Noodle Soup. The Signature dishes are truly amazing.
