*updated review* Felt the need to update my previous 2 star-review to a 1 star. Call me petty if you want but I noticed the owner posted a rude comment to my review (see attached response) The steaks absolutely arrived like the photos I shared. Maybe they're just not meant for takeout, and that's fine - that was the experience that I had. They say that I altered the photos before posting them, but what reason would I have to do that? And to clarify about my Times Square comment, I meant that the quality of the food is definitely not worth the price tag, so I am almost certain they need to overcharge in order to pay their rent in Times Square, which I imagine cannot be cheap. Seems they cannot take honest feedback or any feedback that's not positive, and if that's the case, posting comments like these to customer reviews only hurts them in the end. Do yourself a favor and just go to a tourist trap in the area. You'll probably have a better experience. ___________________________________________ I think this used to be Shorty's, which I really liked. Olde City is not that good. And at almost $20 a cheesesteak?! Totally not worth it, especially not for the amount of meat they give. We ordered for takeout and got the Authentic (Whiz, cooper sharp American, black pepper cooper sharp American, mild or sharp provolone), Garlic Aioli (Garlic aioli, romaine, tomato, red onion, mild provolone), and Yuengling Rings. The steaks were basic but the onion rings were pretty good. But, just these three items came out to $50 something. I guess you're really just paying for the location, since it's practically in Times Square.

When you walk in, you’ll quickly realize this is a bar and not a restaurant. Don’t let that deter you! I sat down at the bar right around 6pm. There were several side tables also open for parties or 2 and 4. Bartender was very attentive and I ordered a draft beer from their decent selection. The menu has many Cheesesteak options, but I opted for a classic with Whiz and added the options fried onions. I passed on green peppers. I splurged on the calories and also ordered fries. Before my food arrived, it got significantly busier, with most every seat taken. A DJ finished setting up and started cranking some tunes, so it got a little louder, but not too bad. My cheesesteak arrived in a basket, cut in half. Perfectly crisp lightly batter-coated fries are a large order and in their own basket. The sandwich was large enough to split, but way too tasty to do so. The soft bun was filled with the right balance of tasty meat, whiz, and onions. This was easily one of THE best cheesesteaks I have ever had. Cooked perfectly, and you can tell it’s high-quality meat. I won’t hesitate to eat here again.

Whiz wit! (and some banana peppers because I was feeling frisky). This place delivers a great quality cheese steak in a warm atmosphere. Everything about the meal was supreme quality from the roll, whiz, onions, and peppers to the STEAK. Not dry, seasoned well and really the perfect ratio to the other ingredients. Really the best I've had in NYC - don't waste a trip to Brooklyn for Federoff's if you're in Manhattan and the others aren't even worth talking about. This is the spot. A final note: I got takeout but the bar area appeared quite welcoming. Solid place to sit down and socialize / grab a beer with your food.

On New Year’s Day my husband was craving a cheesesteak from Olde City in Hell’s Kitchen from the time we sat at the bar we met the most beautiful and friendly bartender Svetlana K and it made our experience so memorable and special not only is Svetlana a sweetheart she was very informative about the menu as well as cocktail selection she made me the best margarita I ever had. She was extremely personable and friendly we will definitely be back to see her and we definitely recommend this hidden gem. My husband & I are both in the industry as seasoned Chefs on a high platform so to be treated so special and she had no idea who we were shows she treats all customers with kindness and compassion we will definitely be back to visit her and we left her a generous tip to pay homage to a great experience. Thank You Svetlana for being the sweetest human being I pray you boss knows how special you are...
