I ordered BBQ spare rib tips with french fries.
Every Chinese food restaurant I visited in NYC always served bbq spare ribs or spare rib tips with bbq sauce (Naturally!) Whenever I ordered bbq ribs, I would receive ribs drenched in bbq sauce as it should be! Never have I been served spare ribs or spare rib tips without bbq sauce at any NY based Chinese restaurant.
Chuang Chef delivered what I would describe as the DRIEST spare rib tips ever. Besides having no bbq sauce (DRY), the rib tips had other unappetizing characteristics. The rib tips were seemingly only fried (Overly oily) and they had a strange odor. I understand pork can have a strange odor, but that’s why one washes pork. I never had an issue with the smell of pork in other restaurants. I question whether Chuang Chef properly preps their pork. The food was not the main disappointment though...
When I called, I was met with the restaurant employee's apathy. I spoke to a man and then a woman. I am not sure whether they are just employees or the owners. Either way, they didn't care to resolve the issue. They told me a bogus excuse that they normally served spare rib tips without sauce unless instructed otherwise. The funny detail though is that they lied. I called them out on it. I previously ordered spare rib tips from Chuang Chef and the previous time I ordered spare rib tips, they did come drenched with bbq sauce. I did not need to explicitly request the bbq sauce nor did the employee ask if I wanted bbq sauce on the ribs. The spare ribs simply came with sauce the last time. This time however, they did not.
I was a becoming a regular at this restaurant, supporting my local businesses, especially during this pandemic. However, the restaurant's employees' attitudes as well as their lack of owning up to their mistakes by accepting responsibility seems to suggest that they don't need my money, so I will buy Chinese food elsewhere. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
I personally like Double Chinese restaurant on 108th Street because I was eating with them for years. They are far more consistent in my...
Read moreI was really hoping for a great meal, but unfortunately, this place missed the mark on both food and service. The workers were inattentive and seemed uninterested . We had to wait over 20 minutes just to get our food
As for the food, it was disappointing. The fried rice was bland, had an odd, unappetizing texture. I understand that small businesses can be hit or miss, but this experience was definitely a miss.
Overall, poor service and underwhelming food. I won’t be...

General Tso was prepared really nicely. The hot and sour soup lagged flavor but with some hot sauce and dry noodles to make a crunch, hit the spot.
Dumplings were nice consistency went well with the dumpling sauce....
