This place discriminates and has a very judgy and rude man working for them. Let me explain, please be patient as we call learn from this. Today my elderly retired father, and 47 year school administrator and graduate professor, to his normal two hour train ride from our home town in Point Pleasant, where we are home owners, and it is known to be affluent. He walked into this establishment waiting for a chance to be seated as Shepard's Pie sounded good with a beer. A gentleman, with a mostly salt but some pepper beard wearing a hat, likely a host but not a manager according to another worker, came and stood in front of him with his back to my dad for several minutes. Eventually he asked my dad, "Can I help you?" He said Yes please, I'd like to be seated for lunch. He asked my father "Will you be paying in cash or with a card?" Finding that unusual, my father said "What difference does it make?" My dad, incredulous left and walked up the street where he spent $50 and tipped very well above 20%. He returned to Connolly's on 47th near the broadway museum, and was greeted by a female hostess. Holding his leftovers bag from where he took his business he asked if it's normal to ask a patron if they have cash or credit before seating someone. She said no. The same gentleman with the gray beard and hat came to stand next to her. My father said I thought it was odd, is he a manager? She said no. My father explained he went elsewhere, and wanted that worker who questioned and shame him based on his looks and outfit, that's was a high earning administrator who lives in the affluent area of Point Pleasant NJ, often taking out local train to the City to have a walk and a meal. Then, he mentioned with allllll that experience and his Graduate++ degree, he would not mince words in his well written review of this place. And I'm here to speak as well on his behalf, because this type of judgement and unkindness is despicable and I may call to ask for the manager of neither of us get a satisfactory response. Thanks for reading. But we must all not forget, all humans have feelings, and you never know how wealthy a person you're...
Read moreI had the gaelic burger. The patty did not seem fresh to me...not sure if these burgers are made fresh or are just frozen patties...but I should have asked...because it certainly tasted like a frozen patty. The bun seemed right out of the package and not fresh baked either...so I I left it on the plate. The fries however were absolutely DELICIOUS!!! Perfectly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside. I would eat their fries ANYTIME. Our server was kind but nowhere near attentive. She offered no water for the table and while I would have happily ordered another another cider...she left us alone for so long I decided against it. I also find it odd that while I ordered a burger no type of sauce was offered...I only got a small cup of ketchup for my fries. The key lime pie (which they supposedly have been awarded for) was tasty...the filling was nice and tart. But the crust was nothing special. The crust seemed store bought because it so lacked in flavor and did not hold up to the filling. That being said my friends rather enjoyed their dishes. One friend said the chicken pot pie was the best she had in awhile. My other friend said the Shepard's Pie was tasty. Not earth shattering...but good. My other friend thought her sweet potato fries stayed crisp...which was quite impressive. But we ALL agreed the service was lacking BIG TIME ! For me personally, the wonderful fries is what saves this from being a two...
Read moreWhere to begin with the abysmal catastrophe that was my visit to Connolly's on 121 W 45th St? Calling it a 'poor experience' would be a gross understatement; it was an unmitigated disaster. The service—or should I say, the lack thereof—was so horrendous, it's hard to believe they dare to charge for it, let alone pilfer $50 in tips for the privilege of their neglect.
But the true horror didn't begin until I made the grave mistake of ordering a beer. To say it tasted like piss would be an insult to piss everywhere. In fact, it was so vile, I'm convinced the sewers of New York would reject it on principle alone.
And the staff? 'Ignorant and lying' doesn't even scratch the surface. They were the embodiment of disdain, seemingly going out of their way to ensure the experience was as unpleasant as humanly possible. Their expertise in deception and rudeness was the only proficient aspect of their service.
In a city renowned for its vibrant bar scene and exceptional customer service, Connolly's manages to plummet to new depths of disgrace. It's a black hole of hospitality, sucking in unsuspecting customers and spitting them out, bewildered and lighter in the wallet. My advice? Avoid at all costs unless you're conducting a study on the limits of human tolerance for culinary and...
