5 Stars for sure. This restaurant was exactly what we were looking for. Imagine 3 guys visiting Manhattan for the first time during New Years even / New Years Day (bucket list) and had now walked over 67000 steps in 3 days (according to FitBit), and we just wanted a sit down meal that had good food, didn't cost us a small fortune and wasn't packed. The glow of the "open" sign in the doorway guided us like the three wise-men in a story I heard once (Three Amigos... great movie.) Anywhoo... we walked into the perfect representation of the American diner. Authentic 1957 decor mixed with 1980's "update" and a menu that .. well, you could eat here every day for a year, order a different thing each time and never have the same thing twice. It was page after page of choices. The waiter was exactly as you would expect. Not rude, but definitely not interested in us as people either. He had the facial expression of "feed 'em, clean up, get paid." Oh, you might be reading this and thinking "well, THAT doesn't sound too pleasant.. why 5 stars?!" and Karen, you couldn't be more wrong. It was New Years day in New York City with 3 hung over idiots who had never been to this city before. We were not looking for conversation and perky service. We wanted 3 sandwiches, ginger-ale and to be left to ourselves. Food was perfect. Clean plates, utensils and cups. We ate everything, paid, tipped and left (in that order). When we think back to our trip to New York City, we often say "Remember that restaurant?" and my friends are like "Dude, you bring that up every time we see you. Shut up about the restaurant!" and I'm like "you're not the...
Read moreI've been coming to Cozys since the 90s. It's always been my go to spot for good diner food, it's unmatched. It's probably one of the last NYC originals in a ever changing gentrified neighborhood so I'm surprised these guys have survived this long. It pains me to write this review because I love coming here but for the love of God please hire a younger wait staff that can add and subtract correctly. I can't even begin to count how many I've been there recently and each and every time my bill never matches what I order. I order the same thing each and every time eggs benedict with a side of bacon and coffee. Some days my bill comes up to $15, other days it's $12, other times it's $18. For the most part I let it go because their customer service is hit or miss but the food is always amazing. But yesterday was the last straw, I swear I think the old guy that always takes my orders is going senile because his adding and subtracting is all over the place. I was charged $25 freaking dollars for something that should realistically be like $12-15 bucks! It's ridiculous! The worst part is that I don't even think he notices because his numbers are all over the place. Another time I was there and I ordered with him but 10 mins later he came back to ask me what I ordered again because he didn't bother to write it down. I've decided after this double charge incident I'm not going back until they can properly hire a new wait staff that can add and subtract correctly. I feel for the guy because I'm sure he wants to continue working but I think it's time for...
Read moreDon't know where to start honestly. Here's a list of things about this diner.
Literally no one cares about the customer. You come in they don't even say hi. Not a big deal but puts you in a certain mood.
Absolutely atrocious, outdated, food. 'Diner food' doesn't have to be famously and traditionally mediocre/bad. The broccoli was like out of some cartoon where they purposefully make it look bad, as if a kid is forced to eat it. Soggy and tasteless. The steak wasn't just medium as asked, it was rock solid and burned. The baked potato tasted like what I'd expect a boot to taste. Overall the food was absolutely disgusting.
Points 1 and 2 could've been fair if it wasn't for the prices they dare to charge. $27 dollars for an inedible steak, $17 for swimming in grease tasteless quesadillas. Charge $10 and $4 respectively and then it'll appropriately reflect the quality of food.
Perhaps the only positive thing was a very polite waiter who was in charge of refilling water glasses.
Overall, I'm not exaggerating, one of the worst diners I have ever been to. It's almost expected of diners to serve mediocre dated food to create that "throwback" atmosphere. But this one is just bad. Just really really bad. Highly recommend Moonstruck Eatery where the prices are lower you can see that people actually care about the service...
