The food from this restaurant is ok not as great as I expected the pica pollos in DR have better taste than this ones and the staff from over there have better customer service i like the look of the place I just don’t appreciate the customer service from most of the folks that work there in my opinion they seem cold and not too friendly and welcoming sometimes they look like they having a bad day without no particular reason and it shows in their body language and attitude as much as they try to hide it when they serve me and with other people maybe I’m just talking from my point of view how the workers interact with me most of the time I gotta make an effort just to talk to them for anything even if a gotta tell them to put tissue in my order so they don’t forget I used to eat there but I stopped because I got into slight arguments with them for simple miscommunication that could’ve been addressed in a more respectful manner and tone of voice but you can’t buy class I guess and now I go there sparingly once in a blue moon or two to three months later after i buy food from them and the restaurant is across the street from where i live right around the corner and anyone would think I go there often and that’s why I give them two stars but I’m just being fair cause that place deserves one star from me for how poor service the staff there give me and other people too sometimes and as soon as I get my take out I be rushing to get out of there that’s how bad the staff rub me the wrong way they needed to be taught work ethics and a better attitude when dealing with costumers cause lately that place been empty I guess it’s for how rude they are most of the time I think but that’s about it that’s what I think about that...
Read moreThe Sunday of the Dominican Day Parade- this establishment was not ready for a high volume of customers. The line to order the food was at least 8 -10 people long when I got there. There is a sit in restaurant portion in the back that sounded WILD. There was a lot of noise coming from the back of the establishment. After ordering my food which was chofán, fried chicken and tostones- I and those who had tostones in their order- waited MORE than 25 minutes for the tostones to be available. Fresh tostones are delicious but why couldn’t anyone tell us what was happening?! They looked annoyed when we asked for an update or asked where were the tostones?! We were just waiting in the heat and Sweating- the staff couldn’t care less. They also have Dominican fried rice (chofán) which had too much sofrito and onions in it. It was the most dominant flavor profile when eating the chofán. They also offer French fries with the chicken if you don’t want plantain/tostones.
I’m all for supporting Dominican businesses but this establishment needs to improve their service. It was Absolutely horrible and left a lot to be desired. I would not recommend based on the service alone. The food was not even good pica pollo. It was okay. I’ve definitely had better in NYC.
I rather go to the Pica Pollo on 155th and Edgecomb Avenue than this place — 100% better and the fried chicken is actually good (well seasoned, hot and cooked through) This pica pollo was not it. I’ve reviewed a lot of places in NYC. You can get better fried chicken (Pica...
Read moreHonestly, great food but horrible service. Don't come here expecting to get any of the delicious food sitting there staring at you when you walk in, within any immediate time frame. I've ordered from countless restaurants in NYC for decades and never before walked away scratching my head at how weird it is to do so here. Yet at the same time, it feels like some people know how to work the line/employees and still manage to do just that: in and out right away. But don't worry, that will never be you. You, my friend, will waste time waiting on the wrong line not sure where to order and pay because the way they do it here is just backwards. With the yelling back and forth between the employees and the general commotion during a peak period, you'll be thanking the stars you're not one of those sensory sensitive people they make all those warnings for.
Finally after you've been overstimulated, worked up a diet, and put aside the headache it was to get to this point: you will finally eat some decent fries/tostones with really delicious pica pollo. BTW, fun fact but despite the name, as I was told multiple times by an employee, ellos "no pican nada." So make sure you bring a knife to cut up the chicken into bite-sized pieces for your little ones. Enjoy!
PS While the cost of two meals with four pieces of chicken was pretty decent (family of four cost $26) I strong advise you not to buy anything to drink there. The cost of a small 12oz chinola was unconscionable - make sure you ask for pricing before...
