Great doubles. Can't wait to try the roti. But every time I go, I just need to have a doubles 🤷. I wish the place was a little bigger.. so I could eat my doubles there😂. There is seating but then I will have people's butt in my face because there's a line for food most times and it's a tight squeeze. The line moves pretty quickly so that's not a prob. Cash only!! Big downside for me. Alternatively, there is a little ATM in the store but I've had bad experiences in the past with those, not there but I'm not prepared to find out. I had some kurma recently and even though the flavor was on point it was rock solid. Probably been there a while. I don't appreciate it that but it won't stop me from going there. Small ting! And finally but most importantly I love there doubles 😁. Seriously for a true doubles connoisseur, the bara might be a little thick and it's wrapped like a sandwich. But I'm sure they're adapting to the new culture. Good customer service, jolly attitude. If someone had a problem with staff they went there with a bad attitude, I...
Read moreI'm probably not an expert on rotis or doubles, but I feel that I am an expert on deliciousness and this is it. I have had roti in other spots, but this one is fantastic and consistently good. I used to get lunch here several times a week - says it all. Affordably priced - lunch for under ten dollars. I would usually get the wrapped boneless chicken roti (pictured below) and doubles. They ask you how spicy you want your roti, and even if you ask for spicy, they go easy on you. I think they have to trust that you won't come back and complain about the food being "too spicy" before they will actually give you spicy food. This is totally understandable because people actually do this (order spicy food and then regret it) They also have a large selection of imported Caribbean goods and packaged food and drinks for sale in the store/restaurant.
Always a line and cash only. This is real brooklyn food. It should be a stop on a food tour (after...
Read moreCash Only. They are currently allowing only 5 ppl at a time inside but the line moves quickly.
Still my go to neighborhood joint. Great value for the money. My go tos are still the doubles ($2 for the plain extra if you want extra-- I go plain all the time) with pepper sauce and tamarind sauce combo. You can't go wrong. Rotis are still massive ($7-9).
But I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the flavors are a little different. Not different bad. Just different. But the pepper sauce and tamarind seem not as sweet or spicy as they usually are. I still love this place, I do but I wonder if all the new gentrifiers are forcing the owners to water things down a bit. I'll give it another try in a month or so and will report back.
5 customers allowed in at at time. Mask and social distancing required. Everyone respected this rule. Even in the cold. I appreciated that immensely during this covid times bc the place is...
