NYC | Two Weeks of Drinks: Snails? Rice Wine Brine? 🐌🍸

Last night we went to Elvis and it did not disappoint! We were most interested in the all natural wine offering, but were quickly intrigued by the thoughtful French menu of small plates. We started with two white wines, then switched to red to taste the variety. We enjoyed both, although we were hopeful they’d have a bit more “funk” that other natural wines have. For small plates, we ordered the mushroom and truffle terrine and the tartare de boeuf with olives, tomatoes, chili, served with a fresh baguette. Their menu is the true winner here! I should also mention the hostess working last night was as friendly and patient as can be, despite a line of hopeful patrons. Big shout out to her! We waited in line for about 15 minutes to put our name down on the list, then came back after 30 minutes to see if anything had opened up and it was sheer coincidence a party of 2 had just left. We really enjoyed our time at Elvis and look forward to returning again soon. Our advice to anyone going is to be prepared for a bit of a line, swing by a local bar while you wait and practice patience! It’s worth it!

We visited Elvis last week before heading to Alexander Molotchnikov’s performance of Seagull: True Story, and, to be honest, left quite puzzled about the bar. How can they charge $20 for a small baguette with filling? It’s beyond comprehension! And a Spritz cocktail for $18—two-thirds of the glass is just ice, and they dare to ask that much? In the end, the bill for two with tips came to $100, and we didn’t even feel full. I don’t get where the world is headed with these outrageous prices. For $70, I’d rather go to Fogo de Chão, get an all-you-can-eat meat deal, and stuff myself happily than put up with this kids’ playground of bread and girly cocktails. The atmosphere at Elvis is nice, but for that price, you expect way more. Not recommended if you don’t want to overpay for air. That said, I absolutely recommend Seagull: True Story to everyone—the performance was incredible and totally worth it!

Holistically: Sommelier approved wine selection (also thumbs up'd by the wine noobs as well) Bites are a little on the pricier end but are worth it. The grilled cheese here is best one we've had (soooo gooey, soft, flavorful). The escargot balanced the seafood flavor without being overbearing Ambiance is generally terrific: intimate, luxe, and welcoming, like you're being transported outside of nyc

Notes: Weekday service was rather slow. One of our male hosts seemed to drag his feet when we asked to move tables, even though the table was free. It didn't seem like he cared too much about us. Not sure how comfortable I would feel visiting again on a weekday. Weekend vibes are completely different. The place is BUSTLING, and loud. Surprisingly, the service on a Saturday was much better. We were taken care of by a wonderful hostess rocking a bob, eclectic glasses, and summer mini dress. She/they were soooooo good at their job: made space for us, grabbed menus, frequent check-ins without being suffocating, memorized our orders and graciously brought our items over, granted our requests, and generally was a freaking superstar. That really stood out to us, as we were taking a girlfriend who's never been before. She had the best time.

Def one of our favorite places now after stopping by on a random day after noticing the immaculate...
