I sought this place out specifically for the roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe and provolone. I've heard rumblings that it may be the true king of Philly sandwiches rather than the cheesesteak, and after having had Federoff's, I must say I am convinced! I'd love to recreate it. I also got some whiz on the side, which, while maybe not traditional, was an excellent dip for the sandwich.
The flavors are so strong and fit together so well. The broccoli rabe adds this bitterness that is awesome. I'm not usually into bitter flavors, but this rocked my world and showed me that bitter can be good. That combined with the rich pork and sharp provolone is something to behold.
I also got the fries, which were great! I love that they fry them in lard. It's sad that vegetable oil is what's used in most places these days. They were generous with giving me hot sauce and such on the side which was great.
As far as the store itself goes, there's not much in the way of seating, but you could totally do it. I took my food to a nearby park, though, instead. Either way, make sure to grab a metric ton of napkins, though, because this is one juicy sandwich.
I should add the caveat that I have not been to Philly, so I don't have a lot to compare to. BUT I am very into cooking and food so I think that counts for something.
Only point of note is that the roast pork is usually only available before around 5pm from what I heard. I don't think this is noted anywhere. I went once after that time and was disappointed to hear that it wasn't available, but it only made me all the more determined to make it back again the second time to experience it.
Also shoutouts to Miguel who was running the front and doing at least some stuff in the back (maybe doing all of that too?). I told him I'd write a review -- apologies for the absurd delay man! Haha. It's been 6 months. Had a great time...
Read moreHonestly, 6-7years ago I would've gave this place a 5 star rating hands down but I'm basing this off my last experience about a month ago
Last time I ordered here, my cheese steak was chopped so thin the consistency was of a sloppy joe. It was almost grainy. They got their meat from creekstone farms when I ordered, I'm not sure if that's the reason why but as far as cheesesteaks go, it completely sucked. It was not worth the $24.00 for the sandwich, which brings me to next point
When I first started ordering here the sandwiches were about $17 then it crept up to over $20 and to me it was worth it because you're getting the philly experience without going to philly. Fine. But now you guys have competition in NYC like Gs and Danny&Cooper that are giving a better philly experience at a cheaper price. At G's, you get more sandwiches and sides options, even the option of just getting a half sandwich for 11 bucks
All I'm saying, this place needs to get back to the consistency it was at 7 years ago, get cheaper, add more variety or at least add a cooper sharp cheese option.
You guys aren't the only steak slingers in the city anymore. So I'm going to avoid that $24 price tag like the plague and I advise everyone else to do the same. You go to angelos in philly today and they gave you a MUCH larger sandwich for $16.
At this point this place is getting away with ROBBERY everyday, don't do it to yourself unless you're starving and have...
Read moreI have to post an honest review and say that I wasn’t impressed with this place as much as I hoped. The Philly cheesesteak sandwiches were extremely overpriced. 21$ for a large cheesesteak which is a standard 8” and all the included toppings. Pair it with a drink and fries and you’ll easily spend about 35$ for one meal. For that price I was expecting top notch quality but what I received was similar to a deli cheesesteak. The bread was tough and chewy, the sandwich was extremely greasy and leaking oil, and the steak and cheese was extremely salty that I couldn’t eat more than 3 bites. I really wanted to give this place a 5 star review but it just didn’t cut it for me. The only good thing I can say about the sandwich was that it was loaded with steak. One other thing that was disappointing was that the menu only contained beef sandwiches with the exception of the roast pork sandwich. My cousins who don’t eat beef were looking forward to that roast pork sandwich but when we arrived we were told that they do not sell roast pork sandwiches in the evening. It was disappointing because my cousins had to settle with just French fries, as it was the only other option. The place should be called Federoffs cheesesteaks instead of roast pork because they don’t sell the roast pork at certain times. Just my opinion though. If the prices weren’t so incredibly high, my experience would have been a bit different, but it was just not worth the...
