I stopped by Food for Negus in Brooklyn, a vegan, alkaline-based restaurant, and it was such a vibe! I had the chance to meet the owner, Shinela, Ms. Trini, who was there as well, and the young lady who put my meal together. I didn’t catch her name, but she was amazing. The team was so warm, welcoming, professional, and knowledgeable. I felt at home when I walked in. I found out about this location through Nicholas on Instagram. He does reviews everywhere, and he's a big part of the neighborhood. He stops by different shops, restaurants, and plugs these amazing places, bringing attention to them. Everyone goes and supports the businesses he highlights, helping build up the community. Since it was my first time, I said "Surprise me,"and they delivered with The Queen's Platter. It was a feast.. fried oyster mushrooms, alkaline curry chickpeas, quinoa, pasta, veggie lo mein with sautéed oyster mushrooms, and a refreshing mango arugula salad. Absolutely delicious and so satisfying. You can honestly see and feel, even through the food, that it’s made with LOVE.. 🤎🧡💛🫶🏾 Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area. Thank you, Shinela and the team! P.S. Did you know that "Negus" is an Amharic word from Ethiopia that translates to "king" or "ruler?"

FoodForNegus in Brooklyn is an absolute gem! This quaint shop boasts an impressive array of tropical and exotic fruits, making it a paradise for fruit enthusiasts like myself. During my recent visit, I was thrilled to find a fresh batch of soursop, a rarity in many other establishments. The quality of their produce is top-notch. What sets FoodForNegus apart is not just their exceptional fruit selection but also their commitment to catering to various dietary preferences. Their offerings extend beyond fruits to include tantalizing vegan dishes, a welcome option for health-conscious individuals seeking delicious plant-based fare. Beyond the delectable offerings, the warm hospitality of the staff further enhances the shopping experience. The women in the store exude kindness and attentiveness, making customers feel valued and appreciated. Overall, my experience at FoodForNegus was nothing short of fantastic, and I eagerly look forward to returning to explore more of their fruit offerings and sample their enticing vegan dishes. If you're in search of quality produce and a welcoming atmosphere, look no further than FoodForNegus in Brooklyn!

Not really my cup of tea, mostly because of the price. For $28, I expected something more substantial and thoughtfully balanced. When I think of a Harvest Bowl, I imagine a variety of seasonal veggies and flavors—but this one was overwhelmingly quinoa, with barely any greens or squash. The fried oyster mushrooms were a highlight—they really nailed the crispy, chicken-tender vibe. But aside from that, the dish didn’t stand out. It was served in plastic, which didn’t help the overall experience, and the portion felt small. I eat vegetarian all the time and can make curry chickpeas at home, so this just didn’t feel worth the price. There were some nice touches—a bit of salad, a piece of candied squash—but not enough to carry the bowl. Overall, it felt more like eating a pile of quinoa with chickpeas, and there wasn’t enough sauce to bring it all together.

I’ve given this restaurant three chances, and each time I’ve left more frustrated than the last. The food is undeniably good, but the complete lack of professionalism, organization, and customer service makes it not worth the stress—especially when you’re ordering ahead to save time.

I recently placed a pickup order through Uber Eats. When I arrived, the restaurant was packed—about 7–8 people inside, another 8–10 outside, and a long line snaking toward the door. Despite my order clearly showing as “ready for pickup,” the man at the counter was dismissive and nonchalant. I showed him the order on my phone and asked if it was ready, and he barely looked at it before saying, without apology or effort, “You gotta order with her,” referring to a different employee assisting a line of over 17 people. No eye contact, no attempt to help—just a complete lack of care. At no point did he acknowledge the inconvenience, offer a solution, or even try to make it right.

This is not an isolated incident:

The first time I ordered here, I arrived 30 minutes after placing the order, and still had to wait another 15 minutes. The second time, the item I ordered wasn’t available. Thankfully, a kind young woman—who was friendly and tried to accommodate—asked me to choose something else. Still, it added another 20-minute wait. On this third visit, my order was just… nonexistent. No explanation. No accountability. Just an instruction to start over and wait another 25–30 minutes in line. I ended up contacting Uber Eats, who immediately refunded my money and issued a credit for the inconvenience—something I deeply appreciated, but that shouldn't have been necessary if the restaurant had simply fulfilled the order as promised.

Bottom line: the food is solid, but the disorganization, indifference, and repeated delays make it not worth the trouble. Until they implement better systems and train their staff in basic customer service, I cannot recommend...

Like many others report on here, I purchased two seeded watermelons. Once at 10 and the other at 15 dollars. I spent over $100 in her shop. Both watermelons where completely liquefied and bad. I contacted her about it via email, Instagram, and phone. One the phone she claimed I had a store credit for the next time I came without even knowing my name or contact info. I explained to her I am out of state and came for that weekend and wasn’t sure when I would be back. I emailed her multiple times to ask if she can ship me my money’s worth and she never responded. She did not give a resolution but continued to post on Instagram as if she didn’t have customers who were not satisfied and she would not communicate for a solution. She never follows up on issues that occur. They say support black owned business, but when you do this is the level of support you get back as a black customer. I will never visit here again. Look at others reviews this seems to be her pattern and she doesn’t care to follow up with people. You’re selling items claiming to improve health and the community but select not to resolve issues with your products. Make it make sense for me.

3/26 It nice that you replied but its been two weeks and no follow through on replacing the watermelon. You haven't reached out to me or responded to any emails. This shows me that you are not thoughtful of...

I’ve been to Some Really Amazing places so I’ll give them a Strong 3. I’ll only feel comfortable going in there with about $35-$100 the food is Good everything seems Organic but I know it can Taste even better.. so food good but the Energy is kinda off .. 50/50 toss up not necessarily warming or welcoming.. they act sort of in a Nonchalant manner like idk (HurryUp & buy) I couldn’t really tell but it wasn’t really Humbling idk guess it’s a small spot .. but they don’t act like a business being heavily promoted on the Internet 🛜 or as welcoming as other Vegan/ Vegetarian restaurants are. no one says you have to smile all day Necessarily but Even Mickey D’s like to see smiling costumers and giving off Energy like you Care always comes back 1000% even when you don’t notice. Anyways lastly I didn’t give it a 5 because most businesses in our community aren’t on the look or don’t care about Reviews but these Reviews are Crucial for “ Customers” .. and for building your brand / business. And most businesses nowadays are Get in.. gimme $ and Get the heck Out. eating supposedly Uplifting food with No Vibrant or Uplifting Energy is a waste of My money. I’m looking to Purchase what I was sold on the Internet. food matching the same high vibes nothing Less. Hopefully...
