Akara House Nigerian Restaurant Blows My Mind and Makes Me A Lifelong Customer of the Best Hamburger on the East Coast and it is vegan. Unreal food made fresh with the most delicious role and most tasty vegetarian burger that is so tasty that it is insulting to call it vegetarian and not have it compete with traditional hamburgers. If Americans could VegOut and wait 10 to 15 minutes for their Veggie Burger, the Akara House could easily, if franchised, become the Nigerian sustainable version of McDonald's. I was so impressed that this restaurant/cafe just up the road from my house that I only visited because I made fast friends with a titan of a Nigerian man who inspired to try his country's food. Now, I feel like Ray Kroc and I desperately want to work for this delicious wonder of a restaurant run by extraordinary nice people. All the food is spectacular, but the vegan burger is truly something to rave about as it is the best burger and fries (Plaintains so delicious.). I have seen the future in Crown Heights of a successful small restaurant that if they can franchise. All I can say is that the food is actually so good, that I want to work for the company. Wish me luck and wish Akara House Nigerian Restaurant all of the luck for an exciting addition to Crown Heights and possibly to the American food chain at large. Wow. ...
Read moreAs a vegetarian, I was happy to find a Nigerian place with so many options! The person working there was super helpful and answered all my questions as I asked about almost everything on the menu. I ordered the joloff rice, moi moi and kale and it was fantastic! That and the fufu and egusi seem to be among the most popular dishes on the menu, the former being more commercially popular and the latter being a more local, traditional type of dish. The moi moi is a steamed version of honey beans using banana leaves. The joloff was a super tasty tomato rice. And the kale side salad gave a nice crunchy texture and rounded out the meal nicely. It was hot and fresh and took 6 minutes to prepare. I gave a 4 on the atmosphere because it would be awesome to see some traditional Nigerian decor in the place! More people should know about Akara House — especially if you’re vegetarian, you...
Read moreI found my new favorite joint in Bed-Stuy! Amazing food + extremely friendly owner and staff. I tried the vegan akara fritter bean sandwich, moi moi, and ogi corn porridge. The sandwich is incredible with the Nigerian spicy sauce. Moi moi is my personal favorite, tastes like a fluffy tamale made with honey beans and veggies + herbs, steamed in a banana leaf, and is extremely flavorful. I also enjoyed the ogi porridge, which has a tangy/slightly fermented taste and a thick, gooey texture that might be an acquired taste/texture to some people. Most of the menu is vegan or vegetarian except the chicken suya. They have 3 seats by the window inside and small outdoor seating. If you want to try Nigerian street food, I highly recommend!!! You can really taste the quality of the food, everything is made from scratch. I will definitely be a...
