During my visits to this restaurant, I had the opportunity to sample a variety of dishes from their menu, giving me a comprehensive taste of their offerings. Here's a breakdown of my experience:

For starters, the combination pancakes were a delightful start to the meal. Among them, the scallion pancake stood out with its savory and perfectly cooked texture. However, the fried dumpling, while tasty, leaned towards being excessively oily, which slightly detracted from its overall appeal. The Peking Duck Baos, unfortunately, didn't quite meet my expectations in terms of flavor and presentation.

Moving on to the main course, the Spicy Franchia Noodles left me with mixed feelings. While it was decent, I didn't encounter any standout elements that set it apart from similar dishes. The Rainbow Sushi, featuring a variety of flavors, showcased the restaurant's creativity. Among them, the spicy tuna stood out as the highlight, with its well-balanced spice and freshness. The BBQ meat sushi was also commendable, although the crispy shrimp fell short of delivering a satisfying experience.

One dish that didn't quite hit the mark for me was the Avocado Bibimbap. Its lack of flavor left me underwhelmed, and I would instead recommend trying the Curry Chicken Bibimbap, which I'm eagerly looking forward to having on my next visit. The presentation of the Curry Chicken Bibimbap in a hot stone adds an extra layer of excitement to the dining experience.

Overall, the food at this restaurant exceeded my expectations, showcasing a range of flavors and culinary techniques. I would highly recommend this establishment, especially if you find yourself in the area. I have now eaten here twice and both times was so excited about my food I forgot to take a picture. The tag in most restaurant apps says "Korean" food, and you certainly can get Korean and Korean inspired dishes, but there is something for everything. There are also plenty of items familiar to those who have never branched out from Japanese or Chinese Asian cuisine.

The decor is simple, but inviting, and the restaurant is clean and well maintained. Like most NYC spots it's not a huge dining room, so I do recommend a reservation but it's not a requirement by any means.

The service is quick and they are very accommodating for sharing, which I highly recommend because hey - more chances to try things is better! The sushi is great, as are the fresh/summer/spring rolls and the dumplings. And the Drunken Basil Noodles were delicious. I have also had the noodle soup on a previous visit which was excellent too. There are a lot of options with faux meats, which creates heartier dishes if you have non-vegans with you who get a little grumbly about "light" or "not filling" vegan food. Dessert is not the strong suit for this spot, so I would say "spend" that precious stomach space on sharing another entree or an extra sushi roll, and skip dessert.

As mentioned, everything I have tried from the food menu has been delicious, but I'm not wild about the overly sweet teas. If you do order tea the default is sweetened, so be sure to specify UNSWEET if you are not doing sugar or don't...

This review is a long time coming. I'm born and raised in NYC and have been vegan for 16 years. I've tried vegan restaurants all throughout the city, probably all the major ones. Franchia Vegan Café is definitely in my top 2 for my favorite vegan restaurant of all. The portions are fantastic—during a time where most high end restaurants are serving tiny dishes and charging an arm and a leg—but most importantly, the flavors are amazing every single time! I brought my mom here recently for her birthday, she's Hispanic and had never tried this kind of food before, and she was obsessed! I do need to try more of the menu, but my all time favorite entree is the Penang Noodles. It is literally the best vegan noodle soup bowl in this entire city! Love the creamy curry and spicy flavors as well as the toppings with tofu skin, tofu chunks, eggplant and vegan chicken. Also obsessed with the volcano roll, dragon roll, and tofu skin rolls. They're rolls in general are fantastic and in my opinion, better than a certain vegan sushi restaurant that will not be named. The baby dumplings are another great item, the scallion pancakes, the braised tofu with kabocha pumpkin, the hot stone chicken teriyaki plate, and more! They have an incredibly extensive menu so you're sure to find something you love! And lastly, the atmosphere is so calming with its low lighting and calm zen like music. They truly offer a nice respite from the chaos...

It was my first time dining here and I am vegan. It was a very nice atmosphere inside, different seating arrangements and it was quiet where we sat - good for catching up. The decor and lighting were classy. The bar behind us was nice. I was impressed by the size of the menu. We got the japchae dumplings, Peking bao and the Indonesian goreng noodles. All were quite tasty, the bao was my favorite. I knocked off points for the drinks - the cab sauv by the glass was really unpleasant for $17/glass and the hot house sake was average. The service was quite poor. They were attentive in the beginning with multiple people within minutes but then completely disappeared and forgot about us. One drink came out and then the other drink took ages (the hot sake - at least 10 extra minutes, maybe 15), asked about the whereabouts of the drink, asked for forks a few times before we got them, asked for the server a few times and had to go and physically get them, didn't check in or offer to clear plates until we asked for the bill and then the bill came immediately. No one was particularly warm/friendly/smiling - it was very passive service that diminished over time and it detracted from the dining experience overall. I would have sent the wine back if I could have attracted their attention. The service alone from multiple staff would not have me rushing back.
