PULSD USERS BEWARE: This place charged an extra $24 on top of the $40 brunch deal they ran last weekend. They charged $8/person as a " Pulsd brunch gratuity," along with an extra $8 "Pulsd tax" (NOT the NYC tax, which was then placed on top of the $24 they charged, bringing the total to $26.13). Their payment system then steered us into an additional tip, which brought our total to $31.36. ON TOP OF THE $40 WE PAID PULSD.
Doing the math, our food, along with the bottomless mimosas we got with the Pulsd deal would have been a subtotal of $55. Using the Pulsd deal and getting charged these extra fees and tips, we ended up paying $70.
I contacted Pulsd after encountering this issue, and they said they'd discuss this incident with the restaurant. I reached out to the restaurant twice before posting this review to try to get some remedy from them, and they still haven't gotten back to me.
Add to all of this that the kitchen was incredibly slow, one of our plates came out over 15 minutes after the first one (it was pancakes -- how can you not time those well?). I got the salmon tikka and eggs, and the kitchen also forgot to send the potatoes that came with it. The salmon portion was minuscule at best, just 4 small cubes of fish about the size of matchbox each. Definitely not worth paying $20 for. The bombay pancakes were $16 for 2 pancakes (ours was missing the turkey bacon as well); I'll let you decide if you think that's horrendously overpriced or not.
I will say, our server was very kind, and the food we did get was flavorful when we eventually got it in its small portion.
Overall, I'd recommend avoiding this place unless you want to leave in a sour mood for one or more problems you'll...
Read moreI was traveling to New York from India, during my stay there, I was craving Indian vegetarian food. I searched on google and found this Indian restaurant nearby with 4 star rating but had a very disappointing experience. The ambiance was mediocre, and the server seemed inexperienced. Although there was a water bottle on the table, no glasses were provided even after 10 minutes, and we had to request them.
We asked for a recommendation for a spicy paneer curry and were suggested the Paneer Tikka Masala, which we requested to be medium spicy. Unfortunately, the dish was neither spicy nor flavorful, but rather too sweet. Despite the restaurant being almost empty, our order took a long time to arrive.
When we asked for the check, the server showed us the amount on the card machine without providing a bill. Upon requesting the bill, we found that an 18% gratuity had been automatically added. To our surprise, tax was also calculated on the combined amount of food and gratuity, which we believe should not be legal in New York. After confronting the server about 18% gratuity by default being added on the bill, he said this is standard around this area and is mandatory to pay. When i confronted about tax on gratuity, he said, its just a small amount. I said, its not about amount is small or large, its about is it legal or not? You can't charge tax over gratuity. He eventually refunded the extra tax charged on the gratuity.
Overall, my experience was unsatisfactory, and I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Instead, I suggest trying Spicy Symphony, a nearby Indian restaurant with much better food...
Read moreI had one of the worst dining experiences ever. The food was good and I bet on a better night, it would be better. Upon arrival, we were rushed to a table and told that if we wanted to order from a certain part of the menu, we had to do it quickly because the chef was leaving. The server then tried to get us to order a double order from that menu. We declined and got one thing from that menu. We should’ve known something was awry. We were then hurried to order our entrees, which we were told we had time to order. When we received our order, a double order was received. We told the server it was fine. Since our rice didn’t come with our meal, we order more naan/roti. During that wait, a loud verbal argument took place in the kitchen. At that point, we were afraid to talk ask for anything. A friend in our party asked for rice. The rice came out out quickly. After the second dispute in the kitchen, we were asked if we were okay. We asked for the check. We split the check two ways and the gratuity was added due to the party size. No qualms there if we didn’t witness two altercations, physically got up to request parts of our order, and felt the pressure to leave when the music was shut office, and plates and registers became to clang. Our card was quickly swiped with 25% gratuity. There were no apologies for the mayhem that ensued as we dined. I felt disrespected and cheated. The price of the meal and the lack of regard for us as consumers was upsetting. I felt like I was introducing and then forced to pay for the intrusion with a bonus. I will never return to this...
