Great service. Very friendly staff. Attentive with water refilling and order details. One of the rolls we order was a salmon cucumber. When the rolls came, there came a salmon avocado roll instead of a salmon cucumber. When she introduced each roll, she said salmon cucumber from her memory whilst looking at the salmon avocado and caught that the roll was incorrect. I don't know if she would've remembered if it was busier (there were only 2 occupied tables when we visited), but that attentiveness and memory was impressive.
The sushi itself wasn't bad. I wouldn't recommend the raw fish rolls, nigri, or sashimi because the spicy yellowtail roll and salmon cucumber roll were oddly tasteless. Usually there probably is some vinegar-y seasoning in sushi rice that I wouldn't even think to note, but the plain fish rolls were just so tasteless, unlike how the same rolls would taste at other places.
The special rolls were good though, probably because they had more sauce. The dragon roll and rainbow rolls we got were good, although the rainbow roll did mostly taste like the snowcrab mayo mix filling, which I don't mind.
The Sushi Sandwich Roll was very filling. It had a heavy mayo taste, and the texture was all mush. I feel like some crunch texture would've helped, maybe from some raw veggies. The amount feels like it was two rolls in one, so for the price it's great. I probably would get it again if I was really hungry!
The sushi roll pieces were not small, and I like that the filling to rice ratio was like 80-20. I really appreciate them not using a ton of rice and not skimping on the filling.
I also like that this place uses a crab and mayo mix in their rolls rather than just a stick of imitation crab. Most places in NYC / the East Coast I see just use an imitation cran stick.
Overall, not a bad little sushi restaurant! The interior is cozy, and I'd love to return to try their many...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreCame in on a Monday at around 7, and there weren't much people dining. I think there are two restaurants in one (Sushi Para 88 for AYCE in the front, and Nomado 33 in the back). Happy hour is 4-8: $4 house wine, champagne, sake, and $3 beers. This place doesn't have great sushi. But it's good if you want okay sushi, a late happy hour, and somewhere you can just take your time to eat. We ordered a few rolls to share:
Blue Ocean Roll (Spicy Scallop, Avocado, Crunch Inside Tobiko, Topped with Yellowtail, Jalapeno with Spicy Chili Sauce) - not sure what sweet Thai chili sauce is doing on a sushi roll, but surprisingly, it was actually pretty good! This was probably my favorite roll of the night.
Tiger Roll (Tuna, Salmon Inside, Topped with Tuna, Salmon, Eel, Avocado, Crunch, Masago, Scallion, Served with Eel Sauce) - not bad overall. Nothing different from any other special roll at other sushi restaurants with various types of fish piled on.
Maki Roll Combo D (Spicy Tuna, Spicy Yellowtail and Spicy Salmon) - avoid this one. They all taste the same and one of them was an unsightly orange - almost neon.
I probably wouldn't come back but it was okay for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFish quality is very good and the interior has a nice ambiance. There was only one waiter that was super kind with great service, the rest didnāt talk much or try to bother but overall Iām pleased :)
EDIT: I came here again and safe to say i will NEVER come back. When i first went I was very pleased with my time there. However this time I realized something was off. When I went to pay today and they automatically got a gratuity fee which did not happen the first time I went. When I first went the tip options were 18% through 25% but when i tipped today there was and extra percentage. MEANING after the gratuity fee of 20% I paid 7%. 27% for a party of one. I ordered the same thing on the picture below and was charged 2 completely different prices. Gratuity service is understandable for bigger parties but as someone who was a PARTY OF 1, 20% gratuity for just eating inside is insane I will...
