This place is a paradise. An extension of the museum, kind of its own museum really since I believe food is art and lord, THIS food. With a menu like this it was tough to choose but I could not have asked for anything better than these beets and butternut squash soup in this bonkers January weather. I love a savory yogurt, they nailed it here, really every ingredient was used so smartly- these people just know how to put a plate together. I'll be honest the tuna sandwich didn't blow me out of the water. It was just okay. But the bread was unbelievable, which of course it was, because this BAKERY. That little green ray of heaven you see pictured there is a Paris-Brest A La Pistache and when I tell you it rocked my world people it rocked my world. We went back the next day to get another and I'm gonna be tearing my way through the rest of their patisserie menu. I didn't catch the name of our waitress but she was a beautiful human being, just one of those fabulous caring people that you just want to throw your arms around and thank for making you think the world might be alright. I didn't get good pictures of the interior but the actual space is stunning, very tasteful, natural light and all that, we sat by the window and watched the snow fall. Great spot all around. Glad I found...
Read moreI've always liked Frenchette and their bakery in Tribeca, but this one at the Whitney is poorly operated. Professionalism is a joke in here. Employee don't remember what you got and cannot fulfill them in the right order. After waiting 10 minutes for a black coffee we saw our drink being given to someone who came later. When we kindly asked about our order, we were told to "be patient" because he was busy. Okay. And later that same employee serve the wrong pastry to another customer because "they are both rhubarb."
And despite how much I loved Frenchette Bakery's pistachio croissant, I am unable to enjoy the "Paris-Brest A La Pistache" here. Not only because of the terrible service, the pastry itself was an unbalanced mishmash of flavors. The pistachio cream was too thick, too sweet, and too salty at the same time for the tiny, stale choux. Had to throw away most of it because even with coffee this is unbearably heavy. No. This is not what I expect from Frenchette Bakery, and shall I blame...
Read moreI had a 'special' of steak & eggs, the eggs & fries were excellent, I asked for the steak to be medium, it was basically raw with some browning around the edges but I gobbled it all up as I didn't like to complain, it tasted ok anyway. Husband's vegetarian meal of mushroom spaghetti (at $27 this was $3 more than my steak & eggs) was a tiny serving size, devoid of protein. Why couldn't the menu planner add some lentils, beans or other vegetarian protein; spaghetti & mushrooms isn't really a satisfying meal & definitely not worth $27, I had to give him some of my fries & cook him another meal when we got home as he was ravenous. Waiters were knowledgeable & professional. Cooking staff should be aware that customers sat next to the cooking area can hear what they're saying, including swear words, and that casual street headwear/grubby looking baseball caps aren't appropriate attire for an establishment that's trying to be a little...
