This cafe is open early morning, and located near Carnegie Hall. The inside is not big, but rather small and narrow. The staffs here are mostly friendly and welcoming. At this place, you can either purchase some gourmet food items, or baked goods to go, or dine in for breakfast and lunch in the back.
We were lucky enough to get a table at the back dining area, which is really small. They have around five tables or so, if you get there during busy hours, you might not get to be seated right away.
We placed our breakfast order with our server, and then I walked towards the entrance to look at their decadent desserts in the window showcase. They didn’t have a name, description or price of the items, but the female staff at the bakery section came over to help me. She told me what they were with a smile, and when I picked one, she offered to bring it over to my table. The dessert, a gigantic cream puff, was really amazing! Love it from the first bite to the last...
For main, we had SFT and Eggs Benedict. The Stuffed French Toast was really large and tasty, pretty well done. Eggs Benedict on the other hand was rather disappointing. The smoked salmon was not that good. It didn’t have much flavor. The egg was cooked nicely, but then I was also thinking “where is the hollandaise sauce?”
At the end, our waiter brought us a small cup with their homemade hot chocolate sample! It was really nice, I really enjoyed that, and made up for my disappointing Eggs Benedict just a little bit.
Overall, it was a nice breakfast, SFT was good, and the dessert was excellent. Our waiter was really nice and polite, he took a good care of us. Read my full review of this cafe and food on my food blog,...
Read moreWow - what a restaurant. One of the coolest parts of Russian Tea Room is how it feels like nothing has probably changed over time. It really feels like "old New York" and is a special place. The decor is dated but elegant and you can't help but feel like you're part of an old movie. The atmosphere is awesome.
We went to RTR on a Friday night at 7PM during restaurant week. This has been on my New York bucket list for some time, and I really liked the RW menu. RTR wasn't packed but wasn't empty either, not bad considering the impending blizzard. We were seated immediately (sadly, at a table instead of one of the red booths, but no big deal).
Our server was very friendly. He described the dishes to us and was attentive all night. A+ service.
We ordered a glass of red wine each off the special restaurant week wine menu (another great feature) and then we...
Read moreCame for dinner and we ordered from both the set menu and a la carte. Food here is absolutely fantastic. I loved everything we ordered, but the pan roasted sweetbreads was my favorite from the evevning - great flavor accompanied with smooth, silky truffle cauliflower puree and perfectly seasoned and cooked fava beans. The leg of lamb with mint gelee was also incredibly tasty and tender. We finished up with three delicious scoops of mango sorbet. Definitely one of the best meals in recent memory (surprisingly the place had quite a few empty tables throughout the evening).
Tip: They're famous for caviar, so if budget allows, order their Petrossian Tasting or Transmontanus caviar with blini. Both can be shared by two just to...
