We celebrated my daughter’s Sweet 16 birthday here on Saturday, 1/13/24. The setting was beautiful. My daughter and her guests had fun. However, the overall experience wasn’t exactly pleasant.
When I made the initial reservation for her birthday dinner, which included my daughter and 10 guests, I added a drink package that just included water, juice, and soda. We discussed the alcohol package for the adults and was advised by the manager at the time that I would be able to upgrade/add the other drink package which would have alcohol included, on the day of.
When we arrived for dinner, the manager that assisted with the reservation was not there. I was told to speak to Eric, the owner/manager. I told him that we decided that we wanted to upgrade the drink package. He advised me that I could no longer make changes as the 48 hours had passed. Therefore, I would have to open a new tab - despite being told something else prior.
Not wanting to be difficult,my husband, my sister and I went to the bar and purchased drinks from the happy hour menu. Eric’s ego caused him to missed out on the $44 x 10 (amt of guests). That was his decision. We moved on and tried to make the best of the night as it was my daughter‘s birthday celebration. There was a weird staring contest with Eric, where he just stared at my husband, my sister and I.
As the evening progressed, it was time for us to sing happy birthday. I gathered the adults that were seated at the bar and everyone gathered at the table. While we were singing happy birthday, the bartender that waited on us at the bar came barging through the gathering at the table and in the midst of us singing happy birthday she proceeded to wave the bill from the bar in my husband’s face stating that he didn’t pay the bill! Apparently, she closed his tab for him.
Her boss (Eric) told her to follow us to ensure that we didn’t skip out on our tab. Even though we obviously had a dinner tab that ultimately had to be paid as well. Did they really think we were trying to skip out on our bar tab??? Really?
I’m not sure where they thought we were going especially when we went further inside the restaurant, and not towards the exit. It was the most the most inappropriate thing to do.
They didn’t see us as patrons for some reason they treated us like some kind of a threat. We could have received that kind of treatment from any two or three star restaurant. To me, the experience wasn’t worth it. I still appreciate the fact that my daughter enjoyed making memories with her friends but I prefer to spend my...
Read moreI celebrated my birthday dinner at Fushimi in Williamsburg with 18 family members, and while the food was delicious and well-prepared, the service was extremely disappointing.
Our reservation was at 7:30 PM, and everyone arrived by 7:40 PM. We were seated promptly, but that’s where the positive experience with service ended. Despite our large party, only one server was assigned to our table, which made the evening chaotic and frustrating. We weren’t offered water or drinks until around 8:15 PM — over 30 minutes after being seated. Even then, it took another 15–20 minutes for our orders to be taken.
I had chosen a package with a $14 per person drink option, which included 2.5 hours of unlimited non-alcoholic drinks. However, since we didn’t start receiving drinks until 45 minutes into our dinner, it felt like we lost a significant portion of that time. Then, at 9:57 PM, the server told us the drink special was over — even though, due to the slow service, drinks only came out about once an hour. On top of that, my sister ordered a lemonade, not knowing it wasn’t part of the drink package, and the server never informed her it would be an extra charge. That kind of communication is essential, especially when guests assume their drinks are covered by the package.
There were also concerning hygiene issues — one of my guests didn’t receive bread with her soup, and when the server finally brought it, she handed it to her with bare hands, no plate or napkin, which was incredibly unsanitary.
The most upsetting part of the evening was that my mother’s meal never arrived until we were literally packing up to leave. Despite multiple inquiries, the server repeatedly said, “2 minutes,” but it ended up taking closer to 30 minutes each time. It was heartbreaking to watch everyone, including the kids, finish their meals while my mom sat without food.
To be fair, the server was polite, but politeness couldn’t make up for the severe lack of organization and care. It’s a shame because the food itself was delicious, but the poor service completely overshadowed what should have been a special celebration.
I hope the restaurant addresses these service issues, especially for large parties, because the kitchen clearly knows how to make great food — it just needs to be matched with equally...
Read moreI went to Fushimi Williamsburg for a family celebration on Sunday April 28 at 3 pm with prior reservation. There was eight of us and the restaurant did not seem busy since it was still before dinner time. The place is great, and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, the service this afternoon lacked a lot! At the beginning everything was great; we ordered water, drinks, wine and food. While we were eating our appetizers, our server informed us that he will be taking a break and introduced the server that will help us until his return. Unfortunately, no one came over to see how we were doing. I had to pour the wine and water. When both sparkling and tap water was finished, I had to walk around to find and ask one of the servers to bring us more water. After we finished our meal, the dirty plates were on the table for about 20 minutes. At this point I was loosing my patience and had to stand up again and ask the service staff to clean the table. When dessert was served, there were still some dinner plates left on the table! I was quite surprised, that on a slow afternoon, the staff did not pay too much attention to the guests even with a handful of tables in the whole restaurant. The mystery was solved when I received the bill. 18% gratuity was added to the check!! I get it, people take breaks and others are left in charge, I get that sometimes staff wants to unwind and have a chat with a colleague or check social media etc. But you never, ever should assume that if you will get your gratuity no matter what since it is added to the check, you don’t need to do your job. Maybe not everyone in my party felt the same way, but I know the business, and to me, what could be a great Sunday afternoon experience was ruined by the people who should make it happen. It’s worth to mention, that there was no sign of supervision of the floor manager or maître d' and no one came to the table to see how we were doing throughout the 2.5 hours or so that we’ve been there. Like I said, we loved the food, but I doubt I will ever come back to Fushimi...
