Authentic Indonesian Restaurant! Variety of authentic menus and all are done superbly. Price is reasonable. Appetizer options are plentiful. On this visit I tried the Pempek, and it was good so I order another one, Pempek Combo. The later comes with Pempek Kapal Selam and Pempek Kulit. Pempek is an Indonesian fish cake, served with egg noodle and cucumber in a sweet and sour sauce called Cuko. A must try is a dessert/drink called Es Teller. It comes with shaven ice, jelly, sliced jack fruits, cut-up avocado and drizzled in Indonesian red syrup with milk. This drink is very refreshing during summer months. Awang Kitchen is named after the owner/chef, Awang. He is a very humbled man and when he is not busy cooking he will come to the dining room to sometimes chatted with guests. They also have an outside enclosed patio. Parking are on the street with the parking meter just outside the restaurant. Awang Kitchen also serves special menu that are hung on the wall and can be seen in the dining room. Some of the special menus are a really authentic dishes that are hard to find anywhere else such as Rujak Cingur, Soto Mie, and if I am not mistaken Bubur Sumsum. Overall, I am always very satisfied with every visit. It is a must stop everywhere I drive...
Read moreAfter almost a month without Indonesian food, my friend and his wife invited my wife and me to have lunch here at Awang Kitchen. We immediately felt right at home.
The food was delicious. The Gado-gado had the perfect balance of dressing and the fried tofu and tempeh were crispy. I also enjoyed the flavorful grilled fish with a spicy kick. The yummy "Es Teler" also left a great impression on me, and the unique pisang goreng and pisang bakar were definitely worth a try.
I appreciated the warm and friendly atmosphere of the restaurant. We even had the chance to meet the humble owner and the staff who were very helpful and assisted us in taking photos.
The restaurant is located strategically and is easy to find, near the subway station. Highly recommend Awang Kitchen to anyone looking for delicious Indonesian food and a pleasant ambiance in NYC.
We had a great experience at Awang Kitchen Queen, and definitely plan to...
Read moreWe were not familiar with Indonesian cuisine but would like to give it a try, and our friends recommended us Awang Kitchen. It was so popular with no available tables when we picked up our orders on a Sunday night.
Their options on the menu were various from authentic Indonesian dishes to sushi & rolls. We had their Grilled Pompano Padang, Nasi Goreng Tek-tek / Tek-tek Fried Rice, Ayam Goreng Kalasan (al) / Coconut Marinated Fried Chicken and Gado-Gado Jakarta / Mixed steamed vegetable to share with a group of four with a total of $55, which was amazingly reasonable price.
We can tell the food was decently their tastes, but just not really our types. We love the fried rice and the sauce from the mixed steamed veggies. However, the chicken and the fish were cooked too dry for us. We were not sure if it's overcooked or it's how Indonesian cuisine is supposed to be to present...
