They have a good variety of food. However, the last experience I had when shopping here wasn’t so pleasant. I was sent by my manager to grab some fruit and veggies for water that we serve to our customers. It’s a new thing that we started doing as a store and we get it (lemons, limes, cucumbers etc.) sliced. Other coworkers of mine have bought produce and gotten it sliced with no problems. Although, when I was sent to get more produce I asked one of the workers at the deli if they could slice the items I had (2 lemons, 2 limes, 2 cucumbers) thinking it wouldn’t be a problem because they’ve clearly done it before. An older women interjected between me and another deli worker I was asking near her (I guess he didn’t understand what I was asking) and said “yeah as long as she pays for it first”. Obviously that wasn’t a problem, so I paid for the items and walked back to the same deli counter and waited to give the items to whoever was available (either the guy or the older woman). After a few moments the guy takes my bag and I say “can I get it sliced”. Immediately that was an issue for the lady and she once again interjected and said “no we can only slice it in half”, “we only do slices for salads”. So I was confused and said “I’ve had coworkers come in and get produce sliced several times”. The older women continues and says “well idk who does that, but we can only slice it in half”. I didn’t want to argue about it so I just told her it was fine and to just slice the food in half. She continues to mumble very loudly under her breath “I don’t know who does that”, “We don’t have time to do that we have customers”. Keep in mind prior to me approaching the deli counter there was minimal people there, when I came back there was maybe 5 people waiting and being served. And to say “we’ve got customers “ as if I’m not a customer was very rude and confusing. After the guy sliced my food in half, I left and walked back to my job and told my manager what happened she immediately knew who it was that was rude to me. She also said she had the same experience with the same woman… I believe a conversation needs to happen with this women and maybe a refresher on her customer service skills and how she communicates with people, because it can be misconstrued as something else. And mind you, 95 percent of the people that I’ve encountered over the past few years have been pleasant but unfortunately this lady really made my...
Read moreI just got back from shopping at Grace's, the trip rates a bit of civic duty, a review. First off, I would join in with most, by saying the store products, their range, one or two of its specialty counters, are way better than the rest on the UES, and probably on par with the best suppliers in the city. Where I am parting way with the bulk of the reviewers is at the descriptions of their service. I do strive to keep my day jealously sphincters-free, and that may set me apart. I add that as a proviso anyhow, service does collide against our very different, individual thresholds, at times. I had a blindingly bright impression today, however, and that I need to share unadorned: Grace's managers have got to be hiring through probation officers, not classified, no other possible explanation for that floor. But don't get me wrong, that would be a commendable endeavor! Bravo to them! They should add to this honorable deed though. A modicum of extra training may just be what's needed for these society re-joiners. Nothing crazy exotic like pressing for service with a smile, of course. Simple stuff, little things, such as explaining foul manners, albeit vital in the yard, are not an added value in food stores; a good thing would be reminding these works in progress that shoppers are not ex-cons on a food line, and not good game to step on when stocking. Listening to customers' declarative English sentences without guttural throaty unintelligible sounds could be another constructive, simple point to make; and when they felt devilishly daring, these overworked Grace's managers should treat themselves, trying to teach to cash registers personnel the mysteries and beauty behind words like knishes, parsnips, skyr... that would be so awesome... The malevolent look from the 4'2" mini thug at the butcher counter (I had the audacity to appear just after a banter session with his pals,) would have me rate Grace's Market zero stars, particularly because I walked out without my Bolognese ingredients. But it would be unfair. Two stars then, a predictable one for the undeniable food quality and selection - there's diligence and professionalism there. And one more because I didn't see the telltale tattoos of dangerous gangs on anyone (so far.) That is a sort of silver...
Read moreYou know what’s great about this place is their STAFF. The food is amazing and it’s always fresh quality hence why I shop here. But I’ve seen their staff get abused by these rude ENTITLED upper east side ladies (who by the way if you read a negative review it came from one of them.) I was just at the deli yesterday when a nice gentleman was helping a shopper who said one of the rudest things to him... I saw his face go ghost and he continued helping her with a smile. For managers reading this I want you to know your staff goes through a LOT with some of these women who live in my neighborhood. The next time one of your shoppers complain please don’t condone that kind of behavior. The customer is not always right. So what you lose one customer? Your quality of food will always keep you in business in my eyes. You have an AMAZING staff. They make it worth shopping at Graces because they deal with so much. GREAT JOB GRACES STAFF YOU DESERVE A RAISE FOR DEALING WITH...
