Wow! Wow! Wow!! What an amazing meal we had at Hui tonight. So many wonderful things to write about. First and foremost the owner/staff there was super nice. So friendly and welcoming. Next the drinks.. the house wine was $10 and it was a very large glass and it was delicious. And now onto the food. We were a party of 5 and ordered an array of different dishes and each one was expertly prepared and served piping hot and fresh. We started with the cucumber salad and that set the tone for the meal. it was so crunchy and flavorsome. Then came the crystal shrimp dumplings, the pan fried shrimp dumplings and best of all were the pan fried pork dumplings. We were all blown away. Onto the main course.. we ordered the sesame shrimp, the braised fish filet with tofu, the shredded potatoes with long hot pepper (a most interesting and unusual dish) and the chicken chow fun. We had vegetarians and meat eaters and everyone LOVED each item we ordered and it was a perfect amount of food for 5. The prices are very reasonable and the ingredients first rate. Thank you Hui for an outstanding meal! We can't wait to return!!! Truly the best Chinese meal we have ever eaten...
Read moreFor the last few days, I walked by Hui Restaurant on 70th between Second and First Avenues and the place was always filled with customers. I decided that we should come for dinner and I’m glad we did. While Hui had lots a very spicy dishes, we chose carefully since I’m not wild about the items that have pictures of hot chili’s next to their descriptions. We started with an appetizer of cold noodles with sesame sauce. It wasn’t spicy but it was very flavorful! We ordered the whole fish steamed with ginger and scallions. It was FANTASTIC! Our waitress, who might also be one of the owners, not only deboned the bass, but proceeded to make sure that we got all the fish that was edible by constantly returning to assist us with this delicate process. I asked her what her name was and she jokingly said: Grade-A! We also ordered Zha Jiang Noodles. Every thing we ate was delicious and while we were pretty full, Grade-A recommended for dessert, a warm mochi ball, called Sesame Sticky Rice Ball. This was possibly one of the tastiest desserts I’ve ever eaten anywhere! While this evening was our first time dining at Hui, we will definitely be...
Read moreThere was no wait when we walked in on a Saturday evening around 7pm. The waitress quickly came to help. She had an amazing sense of humor which brought my 2yo great fun. I ordered Mapo Tofu (麻婆豆腐)and Beef and scallions(蔥爆牛肉). In less than 10 min, the dishes were brought to us. My son ate all the beef. And my tofu, oh man, I was crying. I've ordered Mapo Tofu every time I see a restaurant featuring Sichuan(川菜 or 淮) style. The majority of restaurants do not get to this specific flavor. It could be the wrong kind of tofu, or a specific spice missing(麻). There used to be a restaurant around Columbia University that did it perfectly to my liking but it was shut down in the year when the health department all of a sudden decided to look very carefully (which was supposed to be). Anyways, Hui did it perfectly, just like the flavor and sensation I remembered from childhood. My mom would add ground pork into the dish, but this tasted amazing as it was. I can't wait to go back and try more. The restaurant looked clean and stylish. The people working there were wonderful. You should give it a try (especially if you...
