I was very disappointed. If you have small children this isn't the place to go. Me and my family were walking through Central Park and decided to get ice cream so when we googled this place came up with great reviews. My nephew is three and there was a large group of us so we asked the kids what they wanted and my husband went inside and ordered. When my nephew saw his ice cream he was happy but as soon as he took his first bite of the strawberry sorbet he felt small chunks of strawberry in it and spit it out. So we kindly ask the women in the store if she could just exchange it for a a vanilla. She said no you should have tasted it first. Really? So basically my nephew was upset because he didn't get an ice cream and we decided to go to the the French pasty store next door to get him a cookie. This is a 3 year old who ordered a small ice cream. The didn't even need to give us another full cup. Terrible customer service and we're rude to my parents when ordering their ice cream because they have an...
Read moreThis was our first visit. There was a short line, approximately eight people in front of us. The store itself is small, but it is clean, nicely decorated, and well-lit.
They have many flavors and it can be difficult to choose -- but it's OK because you get two free samples! :-)
The flavor of the month (July) was a "cheesecake" made with mascarpone cheese. I didn't try it but it looked great!
They have gelato, sorbet, shakes, and Sicilian granitas (a 'snow cone' with flavored syrup).
According to the 'about us' on the wall, they use fresh, organic ingredients -- some grown on their own farm in Italy.
I went with my usual -- espresso gelato. It was delicious! Rich and creamy.
They have toppings -- including fresh whipped cream.
It's slightly expensive (about $6.25 for a medium) but you're in Manhattan so you have to expect that.
If you're in the area and you're craving something sweet, definitely...
Read moreThis chain prides itself on delicious gelato made from high quality ingredients. It is more than salesmanship: it truly serves desserts so heavenly you will always come back for more. Personally, I cannot get enough of their pistachio gelato and often pair it with the creamy yogurt gelato. Top it off with a sorbet for freshness and I can eat it all day.
Many reviews here comment on price. Honestly the price is quite reasonable, even compared to the dubious cones you might find at ice cream trucks prowling the city. For the cost of a cup of (mostly) ice from Starbucks, you can have a large cup of exquisite gelato. More than enough to try a few flavors and share with your significant eating partner.
Their location is near one of the more touristy entrances to central park; long lines are common, especially on weekends. It moves faster than it feels, but...
