My family and I had the most terrible experience at Hunter's Steak and Ale House. Let me first start by saying I made a reservation for today, attempting to celebrate Mothers day early with my family and when I get there, they seat us in an area to only make us move because they seated us in the wrong area. Then we waited about 40 minutes for appetizers which was a simple mozzarella sticks and BBQ chicken wings and worse part we waited another hour for our food which never came. My family and I watch numerous people come in to get their food before us yet we never received ours. Let me say my order was a simple hamburger with French fries, two orders of chicken tenders with French fries and Salmon with potatoes. Why other people who ordered steak received their orders before I did is a mystery. After realizing the waitress must of forgot about my and family's order, we get up to leave and tell the manager our terrible experience for him to respond " it's ok, no worries ". First of all it's not ok, this is not the way to conduct a business nor is it ok to waste someone's time especially when my family and I was trying to enjoy a wonderful mother's day early. I will never go back...

My husband found this restaurant online. We went there for dinner. I didn't understand why it's called steak house. In fact, it's typical Italian restaurant, but we didn't know it and wanted to eat steaks. The oysters were very small that there was nothing to eat. There was a lot of oil in tomatoes with mozzarella. Both of us ordered ribeye steaks. I can say one thing to describe, my husband cooks steaks much better than in this restaurant. In addition, there were a lot of lives in my steak and it was tough. And what we really didn't like about the tablecloths covered with paper. If you want to eat steaks, find better place. We won't go to this place again. Dinner for two without drinks and alcohol cost us over $200 and we didn't have any pleasure spending Saturday night dinner there. As a summary, the prices are high and the service and food are very poor. P.S. During our stay, the bartender talked very loudly...

Simply put, terrible experience. The waitress disregarded our table and treated us with the barest of civility. After taking our orders, the next time we saw the waitress was over an hour later to tell us our entrees would be out shortly EXCEPT we had never received our appetizers! When we informed her that we still had not had our apps, she brought the appetizers out after another 20min. Then, when our dinners were finally served, the fries were cold, the bread of the burger was burnt, the cheese on the sandwiches had hardened, and the steak was salty. To add insult to injury, the waitstaff kept trying to clear our table of our dinners while we were eating the food on those very plates! After the table was cleared, the waitress never asked us if we wanted dessert even as we watched her offer other tables an opportunity to view samples. One star for poor service, subpar food, and compulsory gratuity for a...

~ FOOD~ # visit 1 -- Steak was a little underdone - not what was requested - and the shrimp smelled excessively of the ocean. The shrimp scampi was textbook quality and, thankfully, exceedingly fresh. The tiramisu - shibboleth for every Italian restaurant I visit - was pretty forgettable. The final act of the night - a delicious hot toddy spiked with just a touch of Bailey’s - was just perfect. # visit 2 -- Fish and chips were surprisingly outstanding; the sole was fresh, breaded and fried perfectly; the accompaniments (tartar sauce, salad, etc.) struck just the right note. ~ ATMOSPHERE ~ Stately and old fashioned. Roomy enough for people-watching but with ample nooks and crannies for privacy. ~ SERVICE ~ Always prompt, and waiters do not linger unnecessarily.

Nice place, very nice staff, but, honestly, we were a little disappointed with the steaks (Porterhouse)! The flavor was good, but my steak, on one side, had a bit of an "OFF" taste. I ended up cutting most of it off. ☹ And, one of the baked clams had a little bit of an "off" taste as well! The crab cakes were very good, LOVED the tartar sauce 😋 Spinach Sautee was DELICIOUS, French Fries and Mashed Potatoes were very good! It wasn't busy and we waited a bit for our food, we didn't mind, but then were disappointed that the steaks weren't as we expected!!

We really liked the atmosphere in this restaurant - it feels like old New York from Scorsese movies. The service was very good: polite and careful. The beer was fresh and tasty, not weak like in many other places in NYC. We had a ribeye steak, and it was cooked very well, with great flavor and the right amount of salt. I also had the onion soup - it was delicious and made the right way. The prices were very reasonable for this kind of food and service. We’re so happy to have discovered this gem in New York, and we’ll definitely be coming back!
