Was just here for the first time for my aunt's birthday and found the decor, atmosphere, and wait staff to be the best parts of the experience. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the food. We were a large group, so I can't speak to everyone's experience, but I do feel that overall, for the price, the food was just okay and the portions were small. We ordered two appetizers (fried zucchini and the cauliflower). Both were tasty (I did hear that the apps were good), but the portions were definitely meant to be shared by 2-3 people and we were a group of 12. It would have been great if someone had advised us that we'd probably need more. And frankly, zucchini is so cheap, the portion on that was absurdly small in my opinion. I ordered the duck bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich with the arugula "salad" on the side and the entire thing was...okay. I put salad in quotation marks because it was literally a pile of arugula tossed in a dressing with nothing else. If I had known, I would have just gone with the fries, which were decent. I don't want to be mean about the sandwich, but I've honestly had bigger and more satisfying breakfast sandwiches from a bodega and for far less money. The hot chocolate I had for dessert was quite delicious, though. Overall, for the price, you can find a more interesting spot with better portions. And I will say that the wait staff was really nice to us and let us stay a while and I did...
Read moreDO NOT ORDER THE STEAK FRITES!!!! So I order from this restaurant atleast 2-3 times a week through Grubhub. Note to self, never order steak through take out. Atleast if they mess up cooking the steak I can say something about it right then and there. The steak on day 1 was ordered medium well, and it arrived pink and bloody on the inside. Today I ordered medium, and the$46 dollar steak arrived dry with no flavor. It’s not even a great cut. I could find this cut at Costco. Today is 8/19/25 and since the restaurant chooses not to answer the phone so i can personally tell them that the guy in the back making the steaks does not know how to cook a good steak. Keep in mind it’s a Tuesday at 12:36 pm. You’re not packed with customers where you don’t have a minute to answer the phone. I would have rather kept this in house and not call you out on google reviews. I didn’t choose to not answer the phone at a restaurant, that’s the owner business decision. I’m sure he’s a rocket he/ she is a rocket scientist and thought this would be best for the business. Now every customer that checks reviews before ever going to a new restaurant will see this. DO NOT ORDER THE...
Read moreRecently, my friend and I went to Jack’s Wife Freda on University Place for brunch. When we arrived, there were some larger parties seated at nearby tables yet many tables were empty at that time. The interior was bright and comfortable. The dishes and beverages we ordered were basic brunch offerings, yet the portions were on the smaller side and the hot beverage I ordered arrived lukewarm. After finishing our meals, a staff member removed our plates from the table. My friend and I considered ordering dessert but the waitress came by and slapped the bill onto our table. When she returned, I handed her my card and, soon after, she returned with a mobile machine to process the payment at our table. After completing the payment with a tip that appeared to already have been tapped in, my friend and I finished our beverages before leaving our table. As we passed the waitress, she barely acknowledged us as we politely said goodbye. There were other patrons who were there before my friend and I arrived and there were still available tables. I feel that the waitress rushed us out of the venue so hospitality was...
