My fifth time at Radio Bakery…I hate waiting in line, but I must say this is one of the very few NYC viral spots actually worth it, especially for this NEW sweet corn custard tart!!!
Literally no point to mark my favorites here, because every single pastry I got was my favorite :’)
FYI I waited only 20 min on a rainy sunday, and 40 min on a sunny sunday, both at their Greenpoint location.
*Sweet Corn Croissant $6 CORN LOVERS, RUN—DON’T WALK. Buttery, flaky shell, filled with that slightly sweet corn custard and finished off with sweet corn glacze… literally a dream.
*Heirloom Tomato Croissant After a few failed attempts, I finally got there early enough to snag this. So good that it was probably my favorite seasonal item from Radio. The cheesy souffle filling was heavenly with the juicy tomato.
*Stone Fruit and Custard Croissant $7 Couldn’t resist how cute it looked on the shelf. The peach was fresh and jammy, and the custard gave it a creamy bite.
*Sausage and Chive Foccacia $8 *Earl Grey Morning Bun $6 My go-to sweet and savory pastries here. The focaccia texture is 10/10 perfection. The earl grey morning bun is only available at the Greenpoint location. You could literally smell the earl grey aroma from a distance!
*Olive and Polenta Sourdough $13 I scored the LAST one around noon and omg, it was incredible. Tangy, chewy, and generously studded with briny olives. I’m officially in my sourdough era.
Finally hit up the mythical Radio Bakery after they opened a permanent store in Greenpoint. I arrived at 2ish on Sunday and worried that most of their pastries would be gone. Luckily there were still plenty of pastries in the shelves. All of the pastas were over the top fantastic and seized my heart instantly.
*Earl Grey Morning Bun THIS IS FREAKING DELICIOUS. I have high standard on any tea-flavored pastries or desserts, but their earl grey morning bun was just mind-boggling. It was burst with earl grey fragrance the moment I opened the box. Incredibly flaky swirls of pastry dusted with generous earl grey sugar. I could really taste the distinct floral essence throughout.
*Spicy Salami Croissant Generously sprinkled with crispy chilli flakes, the croissant layers was stirred with salami. I was impressed by the unique combination of flavors in this pastry, but beware that it might be too spicy for breakfast lol.
*Twice Baked Pistachio Croissant If you find Librae’s or Frenchette’s pistachio croissants are too greasy and heavy for you (like I do sometimes), you should try the Radio Bakery’s version. Yes it didn’t have as much pistachio ganache as those served by the other two bakeries, but it had the RIGHT amount of crushed pistachio to satisfy your cravings.
*Sesame Scallion Twist Another savory option from their shelves. Covered with toasted sesame seed and scallions, the twist pastry was tremendously buttery and nutty. The sesame oil further enhanced the fragrance of the pastry.
*Summer Fruit Tart A true celebration of the beloved summer fruits. The croissant tart shell was piped with mascarpone cream, elegantly topped with sliced apples, raspberries and blueberries.
*Triple Pain au Chocolat Their pain au chocolat exceeded my expectation and became my fav pastry from this haul. They use three types of chocolate to bundle up the intensity of flavors, including dark chocolate, caramel milk chocolate and semi sweet chocolate. A must try if you like bittersweet chocolate.
*Prosciutto, Burrata & Basil Foccacia Sandwich Their foccacia sandwich is popular for a reason. It has a crunchy golden crust and a pillowy dough. The burrata is very creamy and pairs well with the savory prosciutto. Basil also sparks up the sandwich with a distinct herby note. A solid and filling breakfast choice.
*Sesame Olive Twist This reminds us of Chinese steamed scallion bun but in a twisted croissant form. Very flaky and aromatic as the inner laminated layers are soaked...
Read moreCouldn't be more excited for Radio Bakery to finally open! Stocked up on some pastries and not even a crumb was left by that night-- we'd loved the 'Nduja and Rhubarb croissants from the pop-ups and they were as delicious as we remembered. New favorite was the Earl Grey morning bun-- so flavorful and could eat it every day. The bakery itself is sleek, minimalistic and has a view of the bakers hard at work. No frills, no fuss--just beautiful pastries featuring high quality ingredients and love that can be tasted in each bite! Service was friendly and efficient; we waited in line but it moved quickly and staff were welcoming and attentive. We had to pace ourselves but are SO excited to go back during lunchtime soon. We will be frequent visitors and can't wait to try everything we didn't have the chance to yet!
Update: We made two(!!) visits over the holiday weekend and were able to try even more items from the menu. The muffaletta sandwich and tomato-garlic focaccia absolutely live up to the hype and the burrata & prosciutto sandwich was heavenly! Loved the ham & rosemary butter sandwich as well-- bread for all 3 was fantastic; flavorful and the perfect texture to compliment each filling, meat and cheese quality was top-notch. Also had the chance to sample some more pastries. Sesame scallion croissant and bear claw were even better than we remembered from the pop ups. Had to get the last rhubarb croissant of the season but its replacement (strawberry almond croissant) was unreal and is a welcome summer delight! Finally tried the twice baked pistachio croissant which was delicious and crunchy and the new triple chocolate croissant which is a game changer (not normally a chocolate croissant fan but this one packed flavor due to the variety of chocolates used). Chocolate chip cookie is what dreams are made of--perfect balance of soft, chewy, sweet and just a touch of salt to draw out the flavors. Finally, the gluten-free corn cake was out of this world--we happened to hit Radio right when they were still warm out of the oven; not sure what spices they use, but corn bread couldn't hold a candle to this amazing little cake. Bakery was packed each time we visited and service remains friendly and efficient. We are big fans!!
NOTE: The granola is superb and we snagged some at one of the pop ups. After eating it five days in a row (it's THAT good), I realized I was allergic to an ingredient and now can no longer enjoy BUT can highly recommend even for those who aren't...
Read moreI’ve never left a negative review before or any review for that matter. It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve eaten here but it was such a terrible experience that I’m still thinking about it. The food was good not anything special and pretty hard to eat as it became a mess of soup after the first bite. The sandwich I got was pretty unremarkable. Just a sandwich. But I’m here to talk about the service. I was expecting to wait in a long line and was prepared to do so. Once we got inside there were so many people that we couldn’t see the food that they had and there’s no menu since they have different items throughout the day. Once it was our turn to order we still couldn’t see all of the food items as they were parallel to the line of people being helped for the pastries and the register, so we had to wait a little for the line to move up before we could even see all the sandwiches that they had. The person helping us seemed to be visibly annoyed by this. She asked us what we wanted and we said we’re trying to see the sandwiches. Once we saw all of them we limited it to two options and couldn’t decide so we asked the person helping us who seemed even more annoyed. Keep in mind this all happened in less than a minute we weren’t taking long at all. She then says something super quiet that we couldn’t hear and grabs a sandwich and puts it on our tray. We just assumed that she was picking the sandwich for us after we asked which one she liked better and she just immediately grabs one and says something. Then when we walk forward to the pastries we noticed that she put both sandwiches on the tray. I then tell her “oh we only wanted one sandwich.” She replies “well I asked and you just didn’t respond” in a rude tone. I said “sorry I didn’t hear you. I guess we’ll take the one on the right” and she scoffs and grabs the sandwich. It was so uncomfortable and such a weird situation considering there is no menu and you don’t know what items they have until you get inside and even then you can’t see some until they’re right in front of you in line because there are so many people in there. It was also incredibly expensive and they don’t have prices on them so you don’t really know until you checkout. Anyways I just think it’s not worth it there are many other pastry places that have just as good good if not better for reasonable prices and normal...
