A Welcome Slice of Nostalgia and Hospitality at KID

KID has quickly become one of my favorite neighborhood spots in Chelsea. This modern take on the classic New York pizzeria captures the best of both worlds—nostalgic flavors with a fresh, elevated twist. It’s not just about the pizza (which is fantastic); it’s a full sit-down experience with seasonal veggie-forward dishes and larger-format meats that make every meal feel special.

This was my third time walking across the street to enjoy dinner with friends, and once again, KID did not disappoint. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and familiar, like a lively family gathering. The open kitchen makes me feel like I’m part of the bustling energy behind the scenes. The staff, who look like they’ve been handpicked straight out of central casting, are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making every guest feel like a regular. Sometimes, I just sit at the bar with a glass of wine and a pizza, soaking in the lively vibe. Many of the familiar faces have moved over from KID’s sister eatery, Motel Morris, on the corner of Seventh and 18th.

The food at KID is outstanding. The Caesar salad was a tower of flavor, unlike any I’ve had before. The pepperoni pizza was perfectly made—crispy, cheesy, and just the right amount of char. The half chicken was so big it practically took over the plate, and the butter beans rounded out the meal beautifully. Their wine selection is equally impressive, offering great pairings for every dish. Last night, my friends and I finished off our meal with a giant black-and-white cookie and a side of soft serve—the perfect sweet ending to a delightful evening.

One of the things I love most about KID is the experience itself. It’s rare to find a busy, popular restaurant where hospitality still shines, but they’ve mastered it here. Whether it’s a casual night out, a gathering with friends, or even a private event in their bustling downstairs space, KID always delivers.

I can’t wait to...

I live around the corner from kid - it has been on my want to go list; I was intrigued because 1. I love pizza, 2. Because they use local ingredients from the union square farmers market. Walking in - my first impression was it felt a bit cafeteria-like - the tables, chairs and floor in the front of the restaurant were all very white. The space was also cold (temperature wise) as there was little protection between the front door entry hallway and the main dining space. I’d recommend the restaurant look into a small awning outside the front door. The wait staff was very kind - the only reason they do not get 5 stars is because they forgot one of our appetizers and then once our entire table was cleared off and cleaned they came over and asked if we wanted it, and at that point we said no, please take it off the bill.

East river martini not great - “basil infused” and tasted funky. Glass of red wine fine - standard and expected for $16 / glass (that’s Manhattan for you). Maybe next time I’d try a different cocktail, however nothing on their menu particularly stuck out to me - a lot of the liquors included “infused” (i.e. lemon infused vodka) which I don’t go for, but to each their own.

Food run down.

We split the cheesy garlic fingers (essentially 3 breadsticks) & the butter beans. The main star of the show were the pizzas - we tried the Brussels sprout and pepperoni. Loved the Brussels sprout, might opt next time for the ricotta pepperoni. Also 2 pizzas for 2 people was too much. Highly recommend the small cup of vanilla soft serve - I’m still not sure what it ran us price wise (we didn’t get a physical dessert menu), but it was very good.

When we come back - we will try to snag a bar seat (feels like a much better atmosphere / aesthetic) and split one pizza and the soft serve. The apps / mains seem to be not worth writing home about. All in we...

I was invited to try Kid when it first opened and loved everything about it - from the magical entry that felt immediately inviting to the warmth from the staff at every encounter.  The pizzas we ordered were so delicious - I truly was surprised by the delights of the new combinations as well as the standards that were elevated and beautifully executed.  I read an article (check out The Observer Review - says it all!!!)) on them after that most delicious memory. The care and exhaustivve experimentation to find these deep flavors for their pizza has resulted in such surprising mouth watering taste treats. Someone ordered their  Brussel Sprout, not my favorite veggie but it was heavenly, as was the mushroom, the anchovy, the limon, the pepperoni...I mean we went at it! We shared some of the  serious mains and salads and left fully satisfied - and  I must say, my New York family is not easily impressed. In fact, I requested Kid for my birthday dinner with my family.  The feeling in the space is easy, smart, chic yet so New York-welcome, open and friendly and warm - the food, the drinks, the love.  It was perfection.  Joy!  Go! You're in for a treat! This is worth getting on the subway for your dinner-date - Take the 1 to 18th!...

A somewhat underwhelming experience, with pros and cons. Pros: the winter citrus and fennel salad, incredible flavor. The white pizza with lemon, creative and perfectly executed, one of the best pizzas I've had in a while. Cons: the salad again, because it was billed as a big share plate. While the plate itself was large, there was just one thin later of food. The overall impression was that the servings here were very skimpy for the price. Ditto the roasted squash appetizer. And extra ditto for the $10 pilsner that came in a tiny glass, for a beer anyway, with a noticeable head of foam. That beer was almost criminal. In the photo, I had not yet had a sip. The kitchen was also out of the butter beans - on a Tuesday at 7 pm. Conceptually, I'm also not sure I understand what is retro or nostalgic here other than the logo? Ambiance, noise level and lighting were all great, and servers were quite nice. I'm so sorry to post this review since sister restaurant (I think?) Motel Morris is one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
