Anti-Asian employee | I became a fan after having read many stories about the founders and the success of Coffee Project. Last Thursday morning, I decided to take my son and my friends here. Unfortunately, we felt that we were not welcomed here.
There was a long line. A female employee who has short dark hair and wore a mask was working at the counter. She greeted every customer and asked them what they wanted to order. But when it came to me and then my Asian friends behind me, she did not say anything. She did not say Hi. She did not ask us what we wanted. She just stared at us. We had to greet her and told her our order, then paid without her even uttering a word. It seemed pretty clear to me that she refused to verbally acknowledge our presence.
Afterwards, she didn't even tell us to go to the side or that our coffee is being made. She was quiet the entire time during my turn and my three other Asian friends' turns. However, when other non-asian customers walked up to the counter after us she immediately returned to her happy self and attended to them. That's when I realized my friends, my son and I were the only Asian people in the shop.
This is not what I want for my son's first experience at Coffee Project. Such behaviors, no matter how subtle, are completely unacceptable and create a hostile and uncomfortable environment. I've cancelled all of the other appointments I have at different Coffee Project locations. Never thought that I would received Anti-Asian treatment at a place I...
Read moreSuperb coffee for true coffee lovers and connoisseurs! It is expensive but you are really getting what you pay for - high quality coffee beans, opportunity to try different varietals and everything is expertly prepared to highlight the specific type of coffee of your choice. In addition to purist options like pour overs and espresso, they also have many creative “cocktail” style drinks and some non-coffee options (matcha, ube). But coffee is the star here. Everything can be served in real mugs/glasses (even iced drinks). The baristas are knowledgeable, clearly passionate about coffee and very friendly, happy to share their expertise. I would give this place 10 stars if I could just for the coffee. Furthermore, the space is clean, bright and classy (marble, wood, leather), with ample seating, to include counter seats for admiring the pour over preparation. And they have a clean bathroom (maybe not a big deal elsewhere, but a game changer in NYC). Bottom line, if you enjoy high quality expertly prepared coffee - this is your place. If you want an oversized Starbucks style latte type watery burnt garbage drink with fake milk, artificial flavor syrups, canned whip and sprinkles on top served in a paper/plastic cup, maybe...

I ordered an iced drink and asked for less ice like the last time I was there. However this time, the barista notified me that the amount of drink will be less because more milk doesn't taste good. I said I don't mind more milk but apparently got ignored.
When my drink came it was in a tiny take out cup ( I was dining in) and it looked less than last time, when it was in an actual glass. I politely asked the barista about this and they looked visibly annoyed and told me it's because they measure out what goes in each drink ( so I guess not about anyone's taste preference lol). They transferred the drink from the take out cup to a glass and I said it does seem less than what I got last time. They then told me the last barista probably made a mistake of putting more milk in and then reluctantly added several drops to my glass, which was so absurd it was almost funny.
I'm no expert but this is not how you retain customers. It's a shame because I had a good experience last time but I'm definitely not coming...
