Levain Bakery — Restaurant in New York

Placed online order waiting at Queensboro Plaza. Took my time walking to window, surprised they opened few minutes early. Ate nearby bench. Glad I read about the relatively inconvenient ordering process otherwise it'd be a 30-40 minute wait! Dark chocolate and peanut butter.

Maybe the 2nd best dark chocolate cookie I've had in the US. Best is the similar size and tasting gut bomb from Metropolitan Market in Washington State. I forget how much it cost, but I couldn't finish in one sitting (and I eat like a pig). I finished Levain's no problem. Their monthly subscription is a good deal (free shipping, 10% off), but after days ruminating I am passing because I would eat Levain's eight cookies in eight days....or less. As for the price - no one is forcing you to eat a "high end" cookie. There's always the supermarket bulk bin. I'm pretty frugal, but I don't flinch paying whatever Levain charges. This place is amazing and they deliver. I’m so happy to have these cookies in easy reach. That being said, pick up is not very straight forward. The address leads you to a warehouse type of building, and once there, nobody answers the bell or the phone. I finally got in because someone else opened the door, and it turns out there is a pick up window, but it’s not a typical pick up window but an actual window high above that they’ve opened to function as a pick up window. There is a bell, and if you ring it someone comes and you have to shout your name up to them and they throw you a bag of cookies. This is such a cute idea! They created a pick up window to service Queens. It's so nice to have a Levain here, and the pick up window is so charming! It feels like I'm ringing the door and getting to meet the baker. It's a great place to meet a friend and grab a cookie to-go for a walk. You place the order online and then when you get there they ring the bell and have your order ready! The staff was so wonderful.
