Best of the bare minimum, or Excellent at the basics. Room 602 is right across the elevator and thankfully this brand new hotel (open less than 2 weeks) wasn't busy on my floor and even when the doors opened & closed it didn't disturb my zoom meetings.
Small room for a queen bed, and the layout wasn't optimum. Which didn't take away from the new car feelings and comfortable bed. However, my ONLY suggestion (not complaint) is that positioning the desk at the foot of the bed doesn't work. I physically rearranged the dresser and desk so I could move the chair with efficiency. Moved it back so as not to upset the apple cart or the housekeeping staff. Not sure if all the rooms are the same... but truly... no bueno.
The bathroom is super cute (translated as minimalist chic), with the lowest grade towels available. Perhaps building a brand new hotel in NYC someone had to adjust the towel budget to pay the unions, permits, change orders, and bribes. Pro Tip: buy the towels first and store them at HQ.
Hotel staff are still getting their bearings on where things are, which is acceptable, because everyone was courteous. Vending machines in lobby were fully stocked, but inoperable. ATM has a $3 fee which is standard for the convenience (not overboard). Lots of good eateries within walking distance, as well as short cab rides away. Subway is 5 blocks away and you're in the city within 2 stops. Highly recommend "Coffee & Green" for my vegan/veggie friends, "Sanchez Luncheonette" 3 blocks around the corner for excellent Latin food, empanadas and great salads & "John Brown BBQ & Bar" 8 blocks away for everyone else.
MAJOR NOTE: This building is so new it doesn't register with all delivery services yet. G.maps & Lyft worked, but "Waze", "UberEats", "Seamless", "GrubHub", "DoorDash", Apple maps... not-so-much. Why does that matter? Because restaurants 5 blocks away said, "outside delivery range". Also, this is arguably Astoria AND NOT Long Island City proper. It's all marketing to call it LIC. Granted you're literally blocks away from the border, but the real zip-code isn't 11101... (at least not yet). Lastly, tons of construction going on in the area, so be prepared for some disruptions. Nothing crazy while I was there but the area lacks some parking and has lots of construction debris around. Several warehouses in the vicinity for construction businesses too. So... no "park or river views". 😁😏🤓😎😷 #goodHotel #justTheBasics...
Read more1-Star experience for me. When I 1st got there, I noticed 2 people that might have been homeless. I asked the employee if the hotel is doing a subsidized homeless shelter program. They said No. (Lied). I only saw 3 other guests there (total during both days), and they were all homeless. With trashbags or shopping bags. Not to discriminate against homeless people, but I have a right to know/not be lied to. I still checked in, and I asked if 12:00 checkout would be ok, since I had a work call at 11:00. (Architect, $95,000 salary). That person (Sunny?) said "No problem, 12 is fine". They placed the 2 loud homeless people directly next door to me. Thin walls. Loud and smoky. I am sure there were plenty other open rooms. Maybe they try to herd everyone together right across from the elevators for security monitoring reasons?? The latches on the doors don't close. Maybe on purpose so nobody can barricade themselves in?? Not comfortable with that for overnight sleeping. I got a call at 11:15 am (from Sundar?) rudely saying I need to vacate the room. I told him I was allowed a 12:00 extension & I am in the middle of something. He accused ME of LYING. SO RUDE!! He said "I doubt you got permission for 12:00, it's not in the notes". I said the guy yesterday failed to note it, which isn't my error, and you should apologize to customers for accusing them of lying. Bottom line if you want to get treated rudely, & treated as a homeless person, treated like sh*t, stay here. Maybe if you're white or asian they might not assume you're homeless...I stayed here to be out of my market-rate Astoria apartment because some work had just been done & I didn't like the smell. It was an option. I wasn't trying to stay in the room for 1 extra hour to keep out of the cold. I'm blessed & fortunate to have a good career and to afford a home. Nobody should be made to feel that way, but especially not a chill regular paying customer. Oh and the headboard had dried white body fluids all over it. Didn't notice til the morning. Nice. The...
Read more‼️ Avoid this hotel and Hotels.com. Don’t let yourself be scammed. We booked two rooms at this hotel through Hotels.com. However, when we arrived, both rooms were extremely dirty and completely unacceptable in terms of hygiene. There was hair on the beds, trash on the floors, and overall filth everywhere.
We immediately informed the front desk that we wanted to check out. They refused to help us, saying the hotel manager was out of the country and could not authorize a refund.
We contacted Hotels.com customer service, who instructed us to take photos as evidence and check out, promising they would later follow up with the hotel for a refund. We followed this advice, left the hotel within a few hours, and booked a nearby alternative hotel — also through Hotels.com.
Despite all of this, and even though we provided photo proof and evidence of the early checkout, neither the hotel nor Hotels.com provided any refund or support. Worse still, the hotel falsely claimed we stayed the entire reservation period — a completely dishonest and bad-faith statement.
Hotels.com took the hotel's side, ignoring all our evidence and showing a serious lack of responsibility.
In short: stay away from Hotel The Villa and Hotels.com. Terrible customer service, misleading claims, and absolutely no accountability. Don’t let them ruin your trip like...
