Read moreDefinitely one of the best bang for your buck tasting menus I've had in the city. They called ahead and asked if I wanted to do the chefs counter as they were offering an extended tasting menu for $80 for 8 courses. Some courses more amazing then others, but there were definitely some amazing bites for a third of the cost of Momofuku Ko. Space is very small. The chefs are very involved and seem to be enjoying the process. Main dude was going around asking about every item and asking for feedback. Service was great. Wish them a lot of success.
Overall found the veggies involved were the star and the chef really made the flavors shine through with some unique ingredients (finger lime, sansho, sprouts, jackfruit) with a slight south east asian flavor. Welcome addition to the neighborhood!
Fushka- really amazing pani puri that tastes like sprouts, which is actually an amazing thing to accomplish when they're normally throw away ingredients on vegetarian sandwiches
Hamachi Tartare- great flavor. Crispy rice for texture. Bone broth made with hamachi bones. Prob my favorite dish flavor wise even when crudos/tartares are on every menu in the city.
Tomato- a touch sweet, but tastes like summer and the bites with the onion were incredible. Beautiful plating.
Squid- my least favorite dish. needed more heat. Was lukewarm (likely on purpose). Good char flavor though.
Pickles- I don't love trout roe, but the combination of honey, fish, pickles and goat milk blew my mind and i ate every bite. Could never imagine this going together. Prob the most inventive dish of the night using a rotating list of veggies for pickles. .
Monkfish- really flavorful curry sauce that would make anything taste amazing. Perfectly cooked fish and a super flavorful roasted eggplant.
Veal- Sorta wish this wasn't braised and had more of a steak texture, but tasted great and was very filling. the sauce and anchovy "milk" went perfect together.
Yogurt- awesome dessert. The sansho pepper actually...
Read moreAmbiance (5/5): The intimate chef’s bar table seating overlooks into the kitchen with 9 spots at the counter. There were a few floor tables unoccupied and some occupied. However, it is a must to eat at the counter to watch the chefs prepare right in front of you with meticulous fervor at the direction of the head chef. Service (5/5): I did no know that they start preparing when the whole reservation hour parties arrive!! I was 20 minutes late and as soon as I arrived, the chefs started whipping away. I felt terrible for delaying their service interrupting the guests’ time. They were very courteous nonetheless and treated all guests with personal care and attention throughout. Food (6/5): I haven’t had a meal this spectacular in a while both in taste and presentation. There are so many flavors, textures, and ingredients that melt into one dish. Chef Nahid Ahmed has done a superior job in curating an all around perfect meal. Some of the dishes have cuisine themes (Thai, Japanese, Portuguese). I can’t even give one critique is how great I thought it was. We added a supplemental $7 milk bread (1 piece to be shared with 2 people) to the last two courses. I think just the 1 piece would have sufficed because 1) we were stuffed and 2) there was not that much sauce that needed to be soaked in the bread. However, the bread is pretty darn good. My friend seemed to really enjoy her wine pairing! I’ve already shared the restaurant with accolades to friends/family and plan on coming back for a birthday to try another seasonal menu.
