what a horrific experience i had at this store because of inefficient communication and a complete lack of professionalism. i bought a pair of beats earbuds at the end of march at this location and almost immediately i noticed that the battery life was subpar so i decided to return it and thought it would be no issue since the product was less than a week old and i had the receipt. oh, but it WAS an issue. i threw out the box (as one does when one purchases an item for $130 and has insurance for said item) so i brought the product back to the store with the manual and instructions along with the receipt to return. when i went to return it, i was told by a team member that because i didn’t have the charging cord, i couldn’t return it. that was annoying but i understood and planned to bring it back to the store with the cord when i was in the neighborhood because it’s out of my way. so i went to the store today with the almighty cord and was ready to get my $130 back. but that would have made too much sense. a team member took the product, scanned the receipt and i was ready to get my money back. then this person called the manager over so the manager would let me know that that was not going to happen (after the team member made it seem like it was.) the manager jorge informed me that because i didn’t have the box for the item that i would not be getting my $130 back. i said i didn’t understand and he persisted to tell me that in 2022, in a corporation like target, that an item i purchased and have the receipt for because the computer system doesn’t have a feature that allows a human to manually enter an item’s serial number that i would not get my money. i’m being sarcastic but that’s what i gleaned because that’s what i was told — that the box was almighty and without it, my $130 was as good as trash. i wasn’t even offered an exchange for the product or a gift card. so i left the store annoyed after a chorus of other team members pleaded that poor little target in 2022 didn’t have a feature in its system whereby a serial number could be entered. not willing to let my hard-earned money go down the drain over a response that seemed asinine, i karenly called target’s customer service where i proceeded to get the runaround from equally inept but at least compassionate folks that told me that it wasn’t impossible to enter the serial number manually and that a return being accepted was at the discretion of the manager. that took 40 minutes. during this time, i discovered the serial number PRINTED ON THE ITEM. i kept the supervisor on the phone and returned to the store. i spoke to another manager who let me again know that the item return was contingent on having the box. i explained that the supervisor on the phone told me something different and that the serial number was PRINTED ON THE ITEM. this person asked me which manager i spoke with earlier and i said jorge. the manager then called jorge over while i’m waiting on the phone with the supervisor for what seemed like forever. jorge appeared and then disappeared and this new manager came back and said that the issue was with the serial number and it needing to be scanned from the box and proceeded to gaslight me even though the serial number was ON THE ITEM. ultimately, this manager said that the issue wasn’t the box, the serial number or the fact that it was monday, but it was that the store was too small and couldn’t offer a return. so sad. small little mom-and-pop shop, target, couldn’t afford to give me my money back for their item. all totaled, this errand took almost 2 hours. finally, i called a BiGgEr store at atlantic-barclays and they said that since the serial number was PRINTED ON THE ITEM that i could return it and they did give me all of my money back. avenue a target is trash and a perfect fit for all of the gentrifier karens that it caters to. imagine if i didn’t have the day off today, the extra metrocard swipe or the patience to tolerate such ineptitude?! i would have lost out on my hard-earned money. will avoid this location at all costs...
Read moreI am a devoted Target customer and was really excited about this store opening in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, my happiness was short lived. The associates at this store are consistently rude. I am genuinely afraid to approach them for assistance. I have gotten anywhere from deep sigh, eye roll, silence + stare to "its not my job." My recent interaction with an associate named Leanna left me fuming.
I have shopped at numerous target locations and I have never had any issue. I blame the management team that oversees this location. You may have few bad apples but if majority of your crew are unprofessional then there is problem at the top.
Note to management: Take lessons in management and customer service from your neighbor - TRADER JOES. In this day and age, you cannot slack off. Your market share will evaporate if you are not customer centric. In addition, please address your pricing discrepancies between store and online. Why are store items priced higher than your website?
Note to associates: If you hate customer service then bow out and let someone else take your place. Unemployment rate is through the roof and there are millions struggling to find a job. It is not fair to you to be stuck in a job that makes you miserable. It is not fair to a potential customer centric candidate who can really use a job and be good at it. It is not fair to the customer who is spending their hard earned money only to be treated like garbage.
Note to fellow customers: please surface your customer service concerns and call their corporate number. This is our neighborhood and we help generate revenue for these businesses. Getting disrespected is absolutely not an option.

Read moreWhen I heard that Target was opening in my neighborhood, I was thrilled. In fact, its first few months of being opened I shopped there almost every other week, abandoning other longstanding favorites of mine. But over the last 6 months, the store has only seemed to get worse, with its only redeeming qualities being its cheery, helpful employees, its occasional good-find, and its commendable handling of reopening during the pandemic.
My main issue is the disparity between what Target is known to be stellar at (HIGH-QUALITY goods, across a wide VARIETY, priced incredibly REASONABLY) and the products that this particular store carries. I know that space is a challenge for any Manhattan store, but the Home section, for example, carries the same basic, unchanging products. Nothing as appealing as Target's Jersey City or Harlem store. It's a shame because, for example, I saw a wide collection of peel-and-stick wallpaper both at other stores and online but could not for the life of me find it at this location at any point in the last year. Again, it's always the same rather basic hardware products with a couple of pillows/throws.
Manhattan shoppers are often sophisticated and fickle. Whoever is running this location should know especially that in the East Village, the opportunity for loyalty can be huge should Target focus on unique, innovative, affordable products both for the home and for groceries. No one is going there to buy clothes. Nonetheless, the staff continues to be helpful, and the shopping experience itself is rather hassle-free with good energy. If only the company would focus on supplying more appealing products, then I'm sure not only me but many others will be encouraged to visit and shop...
