Maki Kosaka, created by the Michelin-Starred Omakase restaurant KOSAKA, truly delivered an exceptional dining experience. Our arrival started a bit rocky as the host barely acknowledged us and seemed annoyed that we arrived a few minutes early for our reservation. However, once we were seated, the atmosphere quickly made up for it. We appreciated the spacious seating, a refreshing change from the usual cramped omakase setups where you're often squeezed in between other patrons.
From the moment our server greeted us, the service was impeccable. We ordered two grab handroll sets, a cut roll set K, and the sashimi platter (no judgment – we were starving!). The bottle of sake we selected paired beautifully with our meal. Before the sushi arrived, everything we needed was already at the table: seaweed wraps, soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi, making the experience seamless. Each roll and dish was beautifully presented and of the highest quality – we were impressed by every bite!
What really stood out is that Maki Kosaka offers both omakase and sushi roll options, which many other omakase spots don’t. This flexibility made it even more enjoyable. We've already told our friends to add this spot to their list, and we’ll...
Read moreThe grab rolls are really good. But the service is mediocre. We had a late appointment (8:45pm), but there is no seating till 9:15! That’s poor management. Not acceptable ! The waiter missed the items we ordered, we had to chase the order. There are couple of times the seaweed packs wasn’t given when we added the grab rolls order. If the grab roll is signature item in this restaurant with average $10 per piece. The seaweed packs should be accompanied to complete the order without excuses!! It’s annoying to have to ask. Also the kitchen is close at 9:30. While we are still eating, the prep stations are being cleaned up……stacking containers, mopping counters etc. making the diners feeling rushed. Since there are only counter seats, all diners have to face the busy stuff wrapping up the night withe their cleaning chores with only one or two stations operating for the still dining customers. Overall the food is good. They need to adjust their reservation wait time management: if the time can’t be honored then don’t make it as available spot! Services needs to improve especially at the late night hours. My rating for this...
Read moreCame back in March 2023 after first coming end of 2020. Disappointed to see they changed the entire menu which no longer had the different dinner sets. Nor does the restaurant have full tables as they did back during outdoor dining. Now the restaurant is more the traditional hand roll bar. Even with a small party of 4 there is only room at the bar. The only dining sets available are the grab set and the temaki set. Both are flavorful but way more expensive (approaching $40). I understand increasing costs however the price for the portions for most people here not on a corporate card and lunch may be left hungry. The sea bass and salmon appetizers were both great, but come with just 4 pieces. This used to be one of our main recs for people visiting nyc based on our prior dining experience. Unfortunately given the changes to menu and price we can no longer keep that recommendation. Higher bill, less food, less exciting menu and poorer seating are the reasons for the lower star rating from our 5/5...
