Since the birth of Anixi, Chef Guy’s flagship plant-based restaurant, the lines between a great restaurant and a great Vegan restaurant have been blurred. You could take any of your friends and they would not believe you when you tell them that everything they just ate was plant based.
In Siete, Chef Guy and his team are at it again. All the Mexican dishes we love, from Quesadilla to mouthwatering Tacos, Enchiladas and more make an appearance and are delightful. The dishes are served in an artistic and whimsical fashion but are not fussy. These are down to earth, plentiful potions and you wish you could eat more. The pulled Birria tacos are balanced and delicious. The Chick’n Quesadilla is a must with a perfect thickness, boasting a crispy exterior and melted cheese that is remarkable.
A special attention was given to the pastry menu. The Churros are a thing of beauty, the ice cream is homemade and the lime cake is dense and layered on top of a cookie crust that just works.
Inside the restaurant the vibe is welcoming, modern and spacious. The team behind the bar is diligent, attentive and happy to serve you. The wait staff are always within sight, knowledgeable and eager to guide you through the extensive menu.
I have been a restaurateur for over 20 years. This is how successful restaurants are made, period. And you feel it as you walk in. There is no doubt that Chef Guy and his team are at the cutting edge of NYC plant-based cuisine. Firring on all cylinders they continue to demonstrate to anyone who is willing to listen that a plant-based restaurant can outperform any celebrated non vegan spot any day of the week. Take your skeptic friends and they...
Read moreThis restaurant deserves its place among the top 10 of several NYC restaurant lists: Top Ten Vegan, Top Ten Mexican, Top Ten Chelsea…. (It’s now on all of our personal lists.) Exceptional food and attentive, personable service made this an excellent experience for everyone (vegan and non-vegan) at our table. The recipes are fresh, flavorful and subtly inventive. Something as simple as a light grilling on the tomatoes before they are chopped for the Salsa de Tomate, adds a smoky undertone to what could be just another pico de gallo. The Coconut Ceviche is a bright combo of cool sweetness and warm spice. Even the fresh corn comes through brightly in the house-made chips. The mole sauces on the Hen of the Woods entrée was the right mix of complex, rich flavor, and an elegance befitting the delicate mushrooms. But for me, a carnivore married to a vegan, the grilled Chunk Foods steak in the Carne Asada taco was a revelation. The vegan meat has the juiciness, texture, and flavor of quality beef. I found myself extracting the meat from the tacos to look at it and taste it on its own, quite astounded. The tacos’ other fresh ingredients and the chili broth make this one of the tastiest asadas I’ve ever had. Accompaniments, from the crema with the meal to the dipping sauces for the delightful donut-shaped Cinnamon Churros are all vegan — but I didn’t think about it. I didn’t miss meat or dairy anywhere in the meal. Miguel, our server, and the rest of the capable staff, were attentive, smart, and very hospitable. And the space, decorated with beautifully painted masks, was comfortable and inviting. We will be back, and we encourage you to try Sentir if you...
Read more!!! I wanted to say something along the lines of" What this restaurant lacks in _ they make up for in authenticity" however, theres nothing lacking here. Again my brother and I shared a number of dishes and we ate until we couldn't anymore. Every single dish that came out was meeting expectations we didn't dare set in the first place. While ive been a vegetarian for almost 10 years, my brother still eats meat, so as we're mexican, I thought it would be cool to come and see whats up. Whenever I visit Mexico or eat with my family, I always feel as though im missing out because I remember how good the food was, and this tastes exactly how I remember it being. In the most positive way, this place is so nostalgic, and everything, down to the tortillas taste how food tastes when you get food in Mexico and sit outside under a tent. It's amazing in every way and also elevated in so many ways without compromising on flavors or presentation, which is so positive to see. My brother also said the chicken quesadilla reminds him of the last meal he had in Mexico lol. Dessert wise, ive never been a fan or tres leches, even mango im not a fan of, however, it was fantastic and so well balanced. Genuinely surprised at how much I enjoyed it, and though the churros are typical, the sauces stood out and were more than sweet, they had flavor. Eating here tonight made me think about all the picky eater allegations I get, because if the foods good enough, ill enjoy it, and this is proof. Lastly, the staff again was incredibly sweet and attentive, which im gladly seeing is a common thread. Thank you for bringing me back to hearty memories, this is a place I hope...
