Mazzola Bakery, a Brooklyn institution since 1928, remains the quintessential old-school Italian bakery in Carroll Gardens. Stepping inside, the air is thick with the intoxicating aroma of yeast, coffee, and savory meats. Their legendary Lard Bread is the undisputed star: a golden-crusted, pillowy-soft loaf that's less a bread and more a savory feast. Studded with generous nuggets of Genoa salami, sharp provolone, and a double punch of black pepper, the subtle lard in the dough gives it a unique richness and tenderness you won't find anywhere else. On the sweet side, their classic Italian cookies, particularly the Raspberry Chocolate Cookies—with their perfect blend of sweet jam and a hint of cocoa—are a must-try. While service can sometimes be brisk, the quality and authenticity are unmatched, drawing a loyal following from across the city. Mazzola is more than a bakery; it's a living piece of Brooklyn history and the gold standard for Italian baked goods.

Oo it’s GOOD. Old-school, Italian Bakery with a great crowd of locals and regulars. It’s cash-only with an ATM right outside the door. No space inside for eating, but it’s more grab-n-go or there’s a bench outside. Didn’t get to try the bread, but their scones are HUGE and their chocolate croissant (I couldn’t resist already eating half, whoops) had the BEST layers of flaky pastry! That’s where I really fell in love; very very impressed by the layers of flaky pastry dough they balanced with just the right amount of sweet. Wish I had bought more! Great prices for quality of food.

Two Spanish girls were screaming and arguing with each other as I have walked in there. I waited patiently and no one asked if they can help me. Several minutes go by and finally one of the attendees ask if they can help me. I asked about the pizza section and they said that the person is not there and they’re all on vacation. What a complete mess and disaster of a place. This business will be going under very soon I guarantee it. If the owners do not have competent employees that can help customers appropriately, then it’s hasta la vista!

Times are rough right now In NYC well worldwide, I decided to get some pastries for my parents who haven’t left their home in weeks ! My sis in law recommended this place to me for their “ lard bread “. I walk in and there is no greeting? Weird ? Fine it’s a tough time I guess it’s difficult to say hi to customers. I was asking questions about their pastries and the women behind the counter were rude. Rude one word responses, the pregnant women had the worst attitude ! I spend over $70 dollars and left a generous tip which I planned to do because I understand how difficult times are right now. However I will not be returning due to their attitude. Bread was good, pastries were ok but coffee was regular. Nothing special. SAVE...

Absolutely phenomenal Bakery I’m from New York City but live in Florida and as you know, you cannot get a good bread in Florida. I was dying for Lard bread, and tricolor cookies. I ordered the bread and the cookies to be delivered to me as usual. FedEx messed up the order got lost on the truck for a week, and when I called the bakery, they actually replace the entire order and shipped it overnight to me at their cost. Who does this? The service phenomenal the quality of the bread and the tri color cookies was Unbelievable you have a customer for life unless you decide to order a bakery in Florida but then I’ll...
