I stopped into Mikado in Park Slope for lunch and ordered a mix of specials. The lunch special two-roll combo came with soup or salad (I got both). The miso soup was classic and warming, while the salad had the usual carrot-ginger dressing bright and tangy. For rolls, I chose spicy tuna and spicy salmon. They came simple and straightforward, with a little crunch from masago and just enough heat from the spicy mayo.

I also got the salmon ikura don slices of salmon sashimi layered over rice, topped with a generous spoonful of ikura. The roe was brined in shoyu, giving it a deep umami-salty pop that contrasted nicely with the fatty salmon. Flavor-wise, it hit the right notes, but I did notice the salmon trimming wasn’t handled carefully there was still a line of skin left on a few slices, which made the texture less smooth than it should’ve been.

A little food note: salmon sashimi wasn’t part of traditional sushi until Norway introduced it to Japan in the 1980s, while ikura (soy-sauce brined salmon roe) has long been a staple, prized for its briny burst and its association with prosperity. Eating them together is a nice reflection of sushi’s evolution old tradition meeting new influences.

Overall, Mikado makes for a solid neighborhood lunch stop: good prices, quick service, and satisfying flavors. With just a bit more polish in prep, it could be...

I really want to like this place, but I've had multiple bad experiences here. The first time we went for lunch, my fiancee ordered a toro roll which didn't come out until well after I had finished my entire meal, and when it finally did, the fish was definitely still a bit frozen. Another time I ordered for pickup and even though the app said my order was ready, I still had to wait an additional 20 minutes once I got there before my order was actually ready. The lone server couldn't give me an estimate of how much longer I had to wait and said they didn't have enough chefs for the number of orders that came in (this was on NYE, so I'll cut them some slack). I hope they're still just working out the kinks because the food itself is generally pretty good.

Edit: I've ordered from Mikado a lot since this experience and they're improved in almost every way. Takeout is very quick and the food is awesome! Happy to have this place in the...

First time trying this restaurant. When I came in I told the worker I am allergic to sesame seeds (my other allergies just in case). I even double checked to see if he let the chef know. Luckily I decided to eat my take out inside the restaurant. I opened it & tasted sesame oil. I alerted them. He apologized & told me there are only a select few that don't have sesame oil. I picked two different ones (the one in the photo). I felt like they used the same box to be honest. Also I seen a tiny sesame seed in the box on the side. I didn't say anything because I had to go back to work & I didn't feel like it would make much of a difference because it seems like they don't take food allergies very seriously. Lastly while eating the California roll, I noticed a small piece of hair underneath the sushi. Needless to say, I won't be coming back. If I had a severe allergy, this could've...

I’ll start by saying there are not a lot of good sushi places in Park Slope so my bar for this place is pretty low. I enjoyed the fish here. The handroll came out like a taco and had plastic wrap on the seaweed, similar to the onigiri plastic wrap. It was fine, though I prefer the cone shaped handrolls more or maybe I’d like the taco more if it didn’t use plastic (although it says plant based 🤔). The karage chicken was a nice portion. Don’t let the color of the sauce fool you, it’s actually pretty good (think soy aioli). Service was prompt.

I learned about this sushi happy hour spot on social media, and glad I came to check it out! 4.7/5 Sushi Tacos ($5 for 3) -- generous filled with spicy salmon, slices of avocado and a spicy kick from the jalapeno. A bit of a messy endeavor to eat with the crunchy taco shell but delish! 5/5 Tuna Roll - thin layer of rice with a very fresh cubed tuna! Flavor of the fish was great, and glad I didn't order the spicy version to really taste the fish. 5/5 Salmon Avocado Roll
