If you’re looking for a place to give you generational trauma with a side of extreme flatulence, you’ve found the right place!
As a 10 year resident of NYC who frequents Chinatown or Flushing almost every weekend, I’ve never had such terrible service, inflated prices, and horrible food made with no care or wok hei.
My wife (who is Chinese) was craving some comforting food that reminded her of home, and we had stumbled upon this restaurant after hearing from friends about their garlic chicken.
We went in with adequate expectations of any homey, Chinese establishment - tactful and curt service, good food, decent prices. And at first, everything seemed fine.
But what we received was anything but. They shoved us into the back corner of the restaurant despite seating the white people up front (for reference the restaurant was NOT crowded, and there was plenty of room in the front to sit). We decided to overlook this detail, and focus more on the food.
When ordering, we asked about the garlic chicken (which they had plastered ads on the walls) and the server said he could do it. He also insisted that they must charge at least $20 for the dish whilst raising his voice (certainly more than what our friends may have paid for), and we agreed thinking that it must be an updated price. We also ordered some roast pork & roast duck over rice and a beef chow fun.
When the garlic chicken came, it was nothing like the photo. We kindly told the waiter that the dish didn’t match what we had ordered, and that immediately enraged the server. He held our dish and used it to point at me, while yelling that this is exactly what we ordered. My wife assumed that he may have misinterpreted (“garlic” can sound like “curry” in Mandarin), and again kindly piped in that this isn’t the dish I had ordered. The server then turned his body towards her and berated her for not correcting the order early on, and insisted that we’ve made the mistake. This interaction went on for 8min as my wife attempted to de-escalate the situation and get the right order placed in.
The gaslighting was one part, but the complete lack of attention made it worse. We attempted to ask for chopsticks, place an order for drinks, and grab our check - all of these requests were met with silence.
After the horrible food (was very oily yet flavorless) and experience we had, I genuinely wanted to leave no tip. But I still left a few bucks and was berated once again that I didn’t leave enough of a tip and was called CHEAP! AFTER A $75 LUNCH in Chinatown!?!?!
If you want better food and service for half the price (without your toilet suffering afterwards), I highly recommend NB Wing Wong just around the corner. Fresher Cantonese BBQ and lovely people over there.
Truly the worst one star experience ever. I’d give it...

Review: Venturing into the vibrant neighborhood of Chinatown in Manhattan, I enjoyed dining at Ming Wong Chinese Restaurant. The experience was not just a meal, but an immersion into the tasteful authenticity of Chinese cuisine served with warm hospitality and convenience.
Firstly, the food was truly outstanding. The Sliced Beef With Noodles Soup and the Fried Beef Lo Mein was culinary triumph. Each dish was expertly cooked and served at just the right temperature, with flavors that danced on my palate. The dinner was beautifully complemented with hot Chinese tea served in a large, traditional teapot alongside a charming, petite cup, adding a delightful touch of Chinese culture to our dining experience. Noteworthy is their quick service; they promptly deliver your order (though a word to the wise: they'll serve all dishes simultaneously unless specified otherwise). Another bonus was the low salt content in their dishes - perfect for health-conscious diners like me, with the flexibility to adjust as needed at the table.
The ambiance of Ming Wong mirrors the charm and harmony of its food. Elegantly decorated but not overdone, the restaurant radiates an inviting aura that makes you feel at home. The place maintains excellent cleanliness, ensuring a hygienic and comfortable dining experience. Even the tables were of the right size and height, enhancing the overall comfort of our meal.
The staff deserves an accolade for their congeniality. They were not just professional but went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, assisting us throughout the meal with menu selections and any other needs.
The thoughtful amenities provided by Ming Wong were an added surprise! Free Wi-Fi and conveniently located electrical outlets let us stay connected without worrying about our devices running out of power. The small details show a restaurant's commitment to its customers, and Ming Wong excels in this regard.
The prices at Ming Wong are exceptionally reasonable - great value for their high-quality food and service. Moreover, its spaciousness makes it an ideal destination for small group gatherings, promoting a sense of community and shared culinary adventure.
In conclusion, Ming Wong Chinese Restaurant is a beacon of culinary excellence in the bustling heart of Manhattan's Chinatown. Offering an extraordinary dining experience that brilliantly weaves together mouth-watering dishes, exceptional service, and a cozy environment. I wholeheartedly recommend this spot to locals and tourists, and I look forward to...
Read moreI don’t write negative reviews lightly, but my recent visit to this establishment left me genuinely disheartened. What could have been an enjoyable meal was soured by shockingly poor service and a level of rudeness that no guest should have to endure.
From the moment we arrived, the staff seemed disinterested, bordering on hostile. We weren’t greeted so much as waved toward a table with a barely audible grunt. After being seated, we waited nearly 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us—and even then, it was with visible annoyance, as though our presence was a burden.
Requests for simple items like drinks was met with curt replies. Server dismissed our drink orders with, “I’m busy, I’ll get drink order later.” All the while she provided guests who arrived after us with drinks and even took their food order and even brought their food soon after. Once given the chance to order drinks, she denied us certain drinks and only took their drink orders of two members of our party, ignoring the rest until we sternfully called her back to take the rest of the drink orders. Then came food orders, she rushed through our orders without giving us a chance to make additions or questions. Our server even denied a party member a simple soup saying, “No not for you, this one is better for you.”, while pointing at a completely different item. At no point during the meal did we feel welcomed or valued as a customer. Let’s just say those other guests, who arrived much after we did, that were treated much more pleasantly and who received their food and drinks were the same race as said server, so possibly racism was at play.
Other than that, the food itself, while passable, was not enough to redeem the experience.
In an industry built on service and atmosphere, this business falls woefully short. Dining out should be an enjoyable experience, not one that leaves you feeling like an inconvenience. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this establishment, and I hope others take note until meaningful improvements are made to customer service.
Oh and if you do decide to dine here, request to see your receipt as at first they did not want to show us our receipt and attempted to add a 20% tip to the bill. Let’s just say they definitely did not get a tip, which left them visibly upset,...
