Read moreThis used to be one of my favorite spots to grab a drink and enjoy a nice raw bar/ seafood selection with amazing appetizers. I used to truly enjoy going to pj Clarke’s especially because of being in the area and just share convenience. It was my girlfriend’s birthday we decided to visit pj Clarke’s because after the pandemic we haven’t really had the time or opportunity to visit but she really wanted to go for the nostalgia. We arrived at pj Clarke’s and asked the host if we could have two seats at the bar; she proceeded to let us know “it was a first come first basis so feel free to take a look “ we did exactly that and realized the bar was packed. What was frustrating about this interaction wasn’t a packed bar but the fact that she essentially had me do her job which was walking over to the bar checking that it’s packed and then walking back over and asking for a table. What’s the point of having a host then? Keep in mind nobody was behind me or was there a line of people waiting to ask questions. Next when we sat down at the table our server came over and introduced himself he proceeded to tell us all the things that were not available whilst pouring our tap water. As soon as he was done he left abruptly before I had the chance to point out that there was something literally floating in Both of our waters. I waited a couple minutes to see if i could spot him and ask for new waters but after awhile I had to ask someone else because I guess he was busy doing something else. After the water ordeal and seeing how packed the bar was we decided to order off the raw bar and get a starter, when the server did return he didn’t apologize about the water or seemed that it was a big deal it was just a shrug and “more water is on the way”. My overall experience from the door to dining in was a 1/10. The food was okay shout out to the kitchen for doing a great job but besides that you’re better off ordering take out. The service is not worth returning to the establishment for “nostalgia”. The sad realization is that things just don’t age well sometimes. Not once did he ask or give me the opportunity to let him Know hey it’s her birthday. Not once was it asked if we’ve dined here before or what brings us in today. It was basically how fast can I turn and burn this table and if that was the goal then congrats 10/10 they...
Read moreHonestly, this was a demeaning experience. We came to the Lincoln Square location of P.J. Clarke’s hoping for a classic, satisfying meal. Instead, we waited nearly 40 minutes for two burgers (both The Cadillac) and a lobster roll (I chose it Maine style, which supposedly has mayonnaise and lemon but I’ve personally found no trace of them). When the food finally arrived, the burgers weren’t cooked as we asked them to (one medium rare and the other one medium), and the fries were shockingly bad and I mean probably the worst I’ve ever had in my life, cold, stale, and borderline inedible. The so-called waffle fries were chips soaked in what seemed like 6-days-old oil. It takes real effort to serve fries that awful. Now I know this might sound harsh but I have high food standards (and I at least expect my food to be edible) since I’m Italian but I also have years of experience in a kitchen myself so the meal that arrived to my table today hardly makes sense to me! Especially if we’re considering that P.J. Clarke’s name has been around since 1884! The lobster roll? Cold (now the lobster can be served at low temperatures without altering its flavor) but the bun tasted as if it was sitting there for 40 minutes, oh wait, it did! The Lobster Roll was not terrible, (how could you go wrong with lobster?!) but definitely not what you’d expect from a place that prides itself on East Coast staples and managed to open multiple locations in the City. Furthermore these chips it came with were truly unapproachable! The Dessert we were told was a “key lime pie” turned out to be a lime cheesecake with very sugary whipped cream, again, not bad, but kinda misleading. On the bright side there was the service at least, with Shona, our waitress. She gave us a great table, offered us to take the fries off our bill and delivered a good service. Without her, this would have easily been be a one-star review, no question. In the end, nothing about the food felt really cared for and despite the lobster and the lime cheesecake were good nothing else was really outstanding. In the burgers you can’t taste the cheese and the bacon they came with had the right saltiness but was not crispy. For the price and reputation, this felt like a slap in the face. A deeply underwhelming and ultimately disappointing meal. I was definitely expecting...
