I visited patron at 43rd and 9th on thw night of september 23rd around 9pm.
I had been a few times before and never had a problem. In fact, the meals were pretty decent and the atmosphere relaxed.
After sitting at the bar for 10 minutes with my friend while the bartender sat at the other end of the bar, I finally had to ask a server for a menu - as the bartender had not left his conversation.
Finally, we ordered our food and drinks while some customers a few seats down for us literally screamed and made a giant scene for the next 30 minutes. All of the customers were turning to look as the rowdy group continued to dare each other to drink, as the bartender - a middle aged man who should have known he was overserving these people - leaned on the bar watching and laughing. Not only did he not ask these customers to lower their voices as everyone in the restaurant turned to give looks of shock and disapproval, he sat with them and laughed alongside them.
After we ordered entrees and 3 rounds of drinks (never having been checked on by our bartender and having to literally flag him down when we ordered our subsequent rounds) we received our bill.
It wasnt until my card had been swiped and i was about to add gratuity that my friend pointed out that the bartender had already included 18% gratuity for our party of 2.
When we asked him why, he said that it was because the bar serves $5 margaritas (which they VOLUNTERILY SERVE and advertise proudly on the menu) and he was "just looking out for the bar."
We politely said that we understand, but between drinks and food, we had run up at least $70 and he said it was also because they do this after 10pm... Even though we came in at 9pm.
At this point, the bartender pointed out that we were being difficult and that he could either return the amount or we could choose not to tip on top of the ridiculous 18% included gratuity for a party of two.
At this point, we were so clearly not going to see eye-to-eye that I let him have the fraudulent 18% and left the restaurant (making sure to point out that his behavior was unjust and generally crappy).
I will never go back to Patron and will certainly advise people against it. I found this bartenders behavior not only lazy and disrespectful but opportunistic.
For those of us who do not take advantage of servers, tipping a regular 20%,...
Read moreI arrived at Mémé Mediterranean around 5pm yesterday (6/14/2018) to have dinner with a friend at the Tenth Avenue location. The establishment had just reopened for dinner. Only a table of three customers sat eating. I was seated, but not greeted. I sat and watched a middle-aged white male (I’m assuming the mgr/owner) greet all others; he even went out of his way to go to the door to lure potential customers in. He was all smiles, “niceness” with them, but looked at me as though my presence (and by default my money) was not wanted. My friend arrived about 20 minutes later and she was greeted by this man. She’s a mixed raced person. I told her what my experience was and we immediately decided to leave and eat elsewhere. A message to that male: Treat ALL customers equally. This restaurant is in NYC, a place with diversity. If you don’t like it - leave. If you can’t treat people with skin colors different than your own with respect - get out of the service industry. I will NEVER return. Thank you to the great folks Patron Mexican Restaurant (9th Ave @ w.43rd St) for treating us with respect. We thoroughly enjoyed your food, drinks and ambiance. And, we’ll be definitely be back!
The one star is because the waitress and waiter poured me a glass of water and asked if I’d like to order anything while I waited...
Read moreI have always thought and now I will say it out loud, food near Time Sq is always a hit or miss and this was a big miss. Came to Patron post a late night movie when all the other places were either closing or closed. We got seated immediately and when the server asked if we would like to be seated in the backroom we said yes thinking it would be cozier...once we sat down to order we saw the chairs had food crumbs, the table had leftovers and was sticky (the classic menu card stuck to the table sticky)..we had ordered some beers and the chicken main dish (it's the one with chicken steak, pico de gallo, beans and rice) and the minute we were done with the beer, we took our food to go because the dingyness and unkemptness was getting to me. The food (eaten at home) was okay. Nothing out of the world. What annoyed me the most about the night though was the already added ~$10 tip (20%). For the experience we had, I definitely wasn't thinking of tipping 20%. This tipping culture is extremely irritating and kinda fails the...
