The food was pretty good actually —I have loved this place in the past and posted great reviews but this time the wait staff made me feel really uncomfortable for sitting at a table outside as I waited for my husband to meet me. When I arrived all the 4 person tables had 2 people at them but they did not want to give me the same. Wanted me to sit in the sun with no umbrella at another table. They continued to make comments and make me feel uncomfortable for being at a table in which I ordered a total of 6 margaritas and their most expensive fajitas. They brought me the wrong food at first and I sent them back. We will give the servers a good tip and then will likely never come here again. While I wax here I saw other tables with 2 order less food and drink and they did not say anything to them, while they kept asking me when my Husband would arrive over and over. It was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. Maybe they should take a breath. I just took one brother to a crisis center for mental health and the other almost died from Covid but is now in a rehab center —I just needed a respite and chose a respite here for some frozen Margaritas. The servers were NOT friendly and don’t deserve the tip I am giving them but I am a better person then them. I live locally and they have lost my business forever as a result of the poor treatment. Take a breath and treat people well. So very sad. I. Gave them a 2 cause the drinks and food was pretty good—the service was horrific!!!!!...
Read moreI used enjoy this place, I've been many times in the past and today I happened to stumble upon the restaurant for brunch just to be heavily dissatisfied and disappointed.
The bad: Failure to follow order instructions or cook to temp. We sat and requested two steak and eggs, one over medium and another scrambled and both steaks mediem well. The steaks came out medium rare, nearly rare and the eggs over easy. I returned my plate and requested the eggs to be scrambled and when the eggs came back, it's was a pure monstrosity. I switched my order to the "chicken fajitas" and the chicken was such poor quality and lack of season that I just couldn't eat it. At this point, I just wanted to o leave, neither of us ate the steak, egg nor the fajita. With my steak I had orders homefries and unless you consider boiled potatoes homefries then you might enjoy. while the server tried to accommodate, I was disappointed with the over quality and taste of the food. I would not recommend this place if the same cook remains.
The good: Drinks were okay : 3/5 - Frozen Marg Chips and Salsa: 5/5 Guac and Chips: 4/5 Restaurant seating and Decor: 4/5
Service was fine, but again... The food was bland and cook needs to be replaced. I hope there are some positive changes going forward.
Very sad to have seen such a great place...
Read moreI grew up on the Mexican Border and know from quality Tex-Mex. If Refried Beans opened in my hometown, they'd go out of business in a week. Frankly, the food is awful and a disgrace to Mexican American cuisine. They can't even manage to make a passably good taco, so forget about the enchiladas which are nothing more than dried out chicken inside a folded over tortilla (not wrapped and no cheese or sauce inside) with a stingy amount of flavorless cheese melted over the top and swimming in a horrible sauce. The management at this joint is clearly motivated by doing the least possible to keep the doors open. The cheapest, lowest quality ingredients are the standard. Their chips are like cardboard and the salsa is inedible. I will say that if you dine in, you get a somewhat better quality of preparation - but not enough to recommend it. Nevertheless, it's always packed - only because there isn't a good option in the neighborhood. 187th street generally suffers from sub-standard, poorly run businesses, and apparently the mantra is, if you build it, they'll have no choice but to show up. Unfortunately, Refried Beans is only too happy to offer poor value for money and take advantage of being a restaurant of...
