Last night, November 28, 2024 my wife and I came into the restaurant for a late evening dinner. Over the last couple weeks I was happy that we found this restaurant however, it became apparent there was issues especially last night. We sat down in the back of the restaurant the table was that set. The waitress came over didn't Tanisha took her order disappeared for a prolonged period of time we would not serve water, no coleslaw and pickles. That might seem very insignificant however, my wife and I were attacked by a bunch of flies in the restaurant, when the food finally arrived. We had to cover with napkins, the food from the flies eating it. I notified the waitress TANISHA to inform the manager I believe his first name is David the guy was nowhere to be found the waitress and the rest of the staff in the rear of the restaurant we're only interested in talking amongst themselves and laughing, there was no customer service. Please remember I was frequenting this restaurant for a few weeks and providing the waitresses with excellent tips. They have no regard for the patrons of the restaurant who pay the salaries. Of the workers.. my brisket beef in the center of the sandwich was full of fat. One piece of fact I pulled out. I'm sorry to say look like a worm. I even showed it to my wife. I asked to move my table to possibly the front to get away from the flies and she claims there was your table. Besides the flies most appalling was the attitude of the manager, David, which I called on the phone in my car. Resident cause embarrassment. In person in front of other patrons Davis, attitude and apathy concerning the flies dirtiness and overall contempt by the waitress staff was just unbelievable! This guy gave it did not care whatsoever. It seemed that he was so apathetic because he hears complaints all the time . Nevertheless, I will be calling 311 and the health department Monday morning to put a formal complaint in the area with the Cole slaw is , is dirty disorganized . It look like a restaurant in a Third World country. The health department has to be notified. I encourage all those who patronize this restaurant to call 311 and put a complaint to the health department. Avoid this restaurant for your own...
Read moreThe Monday after Christmas, was doing errands and I happen to be in the vicinity of Sarge Delicatessen and Diner, decided that I would get their pastrami sandwich. It's a bit of a walk from closest subway stop at 33rd st which is on the 6 train. Anyway, the walk was pleasant. The diner had both outdoor and indoor dining though there was no one seated outdoors possibly because of the cold temperatures and the seating had no heated lamps. The place was crowded up front as walk in patrons were milled around the counter. Actually, you could not tell if they were in line or had made their order and waiting for it. I actually stood in front of the "order here" sign for almost 5 minutes before I was attended to..Anyway, used the time to look around the diner and noticed a lot of celebrity snapshots with dedications to the diner. Haven't seen this in a long time. There were also different delicacies displayed..meats, fish, dessert. I probably would get confused if I had just walked in off the street as their menu had a lot of choices. I finally placed my order for a pastrami sandwich on rye bread with mustard on the side. It took a few minutes and they neatly wrapped my order and placed it in a Sarge branded paper bag. As I stepped out of the diner, I noticed the display of items like shirts and caps you could purchase. one item in particular caught my eye. it was the "I defeated the monster" t-shirt which was sort of a victory shirt after having ordered and consumed New Yorks biggest sandwich. This is served on thick sliced rye bread with corned beef, pastrami, roast beef, fresh turkey, salami, sliced tomato, lettuce, coleslaw and russian dressing. the sandwich itself is huge and priced at $49.95. maybe next time will try but need a few friends to join me. So how was the sandwich? It was just OK,. My wife found it very dry, bland with lots of fat. . I noticed it wasn't moist and juicy like others I have tried. The serving size was not a lot...
Read moreMy son and I ate at Sarge's for dinner on Feb. 10, 2024. This has been a go to place for my son who lives in NYC. He's been getting delivery from Sarge's for years and he's always told me how good the food is. So of course, I wanted to try it out. I loved the old time amazing Jewish deli smell that hit me when we walked in. The place has a great Jewish deli retro vibe that reminded me of my favorite Jewish delis from my childhood in NJ- Larry's Deli was NUMBER 1, and later on when Larry's Deli closed, we always went to Coopers Deli (also closed now). Anyway, we both ordered bowls of chicken soup with matzo balls, and they were amazing. The broth was very, very rich and tasted pure, and the matzo balls were glorious- fluffy ones with a tiny bit of bite to them!!! Soup wasn't too salty, either! Then, I ordered a pastrami sandwich on rye. I loved it! I liked because it wasn't thickly sliced, but it was still perfectly succulent and tender, and piled high for good measure! The rye was totally fresh and yummy, their deli mustard was the real deal, and the pickles on the side (both new and old) and the coleslaw were delectable. We also ordered fries, and for me, they were the weak link in the meal. They were similar to Nathans, and the order was huge, but there was some unidentified flavor in them that I didn't like. I would prefer just regular crinkle cut fries, not the thick ones, but it was ok, cause I truly didn't need those extra calories anyway. My son got a turkey sandwich on rye with Russian, and he loved it. I ate only a half of my sandwich, and I brought the other half back home with me to NJ. I was expecting to enjoy the other half, but it got confiscated by my other son who lives with me. I warmed up only the meat in the microwave for about 20 seconds, and he gobbled that sandwich up. He also ate the leftover of my chicken soup and matzo ball, and he agreed with me that it was perfection. I'll be heading back to Sarge's as...
