Pio Pio 7 Restaurant Review
During my recent stay at the Westgate Grand Central, I had the opportunity to visit Pio Pio 7, a Peruvian-style restaurant located about a 15-minute walk from my hotel. This was my first time experiencing Peruvian cuisine, and I had heard great things from my coworkers. Pio Pio 7 is part of a chain, as indicated by the number in its name, and this specific location had a unique, cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is narrow and rectangular in shape, with limited space, but the vibe was inviting and enjoyable.
I met up with a friend for dinner, and we were seated promptly. The service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and accommodating despite our arrival about an hour before closing. Since I wanted to sample a variety of dishes, we ordered several items. To start, we had fried calamari and two empanadas. While the empanadas were delicious, I found them to be smaller than expected. Additionally, they contained olives, which I had forgotten are common in many Latin American dishes. Fortunately, they were easy to pick out.
For our main course, we opted for the $60 sampler, which included a whole roasted chicken, a fresh salad with avocado, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a vinaigrette glaze, as well as French fries and other accompaniments. The portion sizes were generous, and we had plenty of leftovers to take home.
To drink, we ordered sangria, and I highly recommend getting a pitcher if you're dining with two or more people, as it offers a better value. The sangria was well-balanced and complemented our meal perfectly. Throughout the night, I also enjoyed practicing my Spanish with the staff, who were warm and hospitable.
The restaurant was fairly busy, with many people picking up takeout orders. Some even seemed envious of the feast laid out on our table, which made the experience all the more satisfying. Although the final bill was on the expensive side, we split it evenly and felt the meal was well worth the cost.
Overall, my visit to Pio Pio 7 was a great experience. Despite arriving late, the staff remained friendly and accommodating, which I truly appreciated after a long 12-hour shift. It was also my last night in Manhattan before heading home, so being able to take leftovers made it even more enjoyable. If you're looking for a delicious Peruvian meal in a cozy, hole-in-the-wall setting, I highly...
Read moreI came to have a quick dinner with my friend and seating was available ( We called before we walked over because it's close to our job and we had went to another restaurant and they were closed). Three tables were occupied with guests and there were about three open tables. We waited patiently for about 10 minutes with the waitress passing us while we were waiting to bring the other guests water drinks etc and she didn't acknowledge us at all. Finally my friend had to go to the back of the restaurant and ask her can we be seated? The waitress response was can I help you with something (for real). Now I would think if we were sitting there for 10 minutes we're waiting for a table to eat. The waitress proceeds to tell us we can have the table all the way in the back in the corner - I'm thinking not a problem, but it was dirty and we asked her can she please clean the table before we sit, she looked at us like it was a bother. Takes the dirty table cloth off and walks away. Now I have been to this restaurant for years and I don't usually write reviews but something today had me feeling very uneasy about the way we were treated and I don't think I'll be coming back to this location. If restaurant don't respect me as a customer they won't...
