I had a virtual class this past Tuesday, from 6-9pm (the day of those massive train delays due to the brooklyn train calamaties) I set up here as an emergency because I was derailed from getting home in time, needing to be in attendance & not miss my class hours. There's a very comfortable seating area upstairs with awesome lighting, not crowded, multiple outlets and access to bathroom for customers.
Square Food Market closed at 9pm which was perfectly timed for me.
As a student with an accrued account I ate very well with EBT.
Of note:
Everything you buy here from pre packaged snacks, smoothies, from the buffet or off the grill-- whatever food/drink can be paid for with EBT!!! it's not a secret, there's like a sizeable16x20 decal on the entrance windows advertising this fact.
As a student who must budget, this golden ticket right here is awesome 👌
I killed my Zoom class that night and was super impressed with simply having the option to show up and crash study in a pinch, in my home boro, at this very professional location. Overall, Square Food Market is a clean environment and I felt safe & comfortable there. 😌
Plus, my order of french toast with a side of egg whites was so moist n delicious even tho I forgot to ask for maple syrup. I think they somehow add it in?! Suffice it to say I was haunted. In other words, I can still taste it, even days later as I write this LOL 👏 Kudos to the staff behind the grill!
I have been to this location before and admittedly, I wasn't necessarily impressed by the high prices (although the select high quality of foods like sushi, full salad n fruits bar, cous cous n high end tonics justifies this tho) nor did I enjoy the rushed/distracted cashier service (may I collect my items and step aside before processing the next order just over my head n shoulders? Also, Wheres my receipt?!) however, there are perks here if you pick and choose your battles. One real discrepancy I had during my last visit was the suggestion from this particular cashier that purchases made with EBT are non-refundable and that I could come back the following day to speak with a manager just to return a fancy soda I had changed my mind on keeping, which I found super weird.
But also, simply compare the qualities to that of other local establishments and what amenities they offer, if any.
This particular day was a total game changer for me, a life-long Bronxite, forreals. My only regret was that I didn't have time to take pics to share with ya'll because it was...
