This restaurant was highly recommended by a friend to have impromptu business convo. This review is from the new location. The decor was lovely, with all the West Indian flags on the wall. They had a DJ that kept the vibe going, but the music was loud. It didn’t allow for any cross-the-table conversation. An older couple came in and lowered the music but didn’t order, and upon them leaving, the music went back to bashment levels.
The waiter that served us was pleasant and very attentative. I had a fantastic ginger beer (they need to bottle it). All the food looked amazing!!! We started with the codfish fritters (cakes) with the incredible spicy tamarind sauce. I ordered the jerk chicken with a side of Mac and cheese. My jerk chicken wasn’t hot, but it tasted good and was moist; the coleslaw that came with it on the side was great (I had apprehension about coleslaw as the side that comes with it, but I was pleasantly surprised). I also ordered some sorrel, which was also good.
Unfortunately, as I got down to the bone of my chicken, it had a bloody knuckle, and the meat around it also had signs of pink and red. I waved over a waitress (not our original server) and showed her the undercooked areas, and she asked me if I didn’t want it. She took it away after I told her no. I wondered why she thought that was acceptable, especially after pointing it out.
My original waiter asked me if I wanted anything else as a rectification, but I declined, and they took it off the bill. I ate the Mac and cheese, which was great.
After the fact, we also ordered some bread pudding, which was a 10! It is worth just going there for that.
I wanted to love the food, especially after coming with an excellent recommendation from a friend who had been going there since their last location and was even recognized by our initial waiter.
I humbly recommend lowering the music so people can have conversations and take cues from the patrons. The music may be prohibitive if you don’t see them engaging that. Regarding the music, offer a concession, even if it is a free drink or dessert.
I can’t say I would go there again, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I...
Read moreI pre-ordered delivery Sunday Brunch for the first slot available after they open. At open they confirmed the order and updated the delivery time to 1 hour after confirmation which I expected given what I ordered. 37 minutes later it was picked up and before the 1 hour mark it arrived! Packing job was great, everything was separated to reduce sogginess and bag was stapled proper so no fingers could explore.
Legit homemade ginger beer with a great kick that bites afterwards. Tastes like childhood; much missed since I can't make my own anymore. Curry chicken Patty: Flaky and tender crust, not under filled. Filling was saucy with small chunks of potato and chicken, great spiced flavor without being spicy. Mac and cheese: Saucy Mac and cheese instead of macaroni pie which was a little surprise. Great flavor and smooth homemade sauce, tangy and rich. Solid but not a headliner. Fried Chicken and Waffles: Even after delivery it was crispy, juicy and tender. This chicken was marinated overnight and flavorful, not just the crust. Did I mention it wasn't dry at all? Also wasn't very greasy. The waffles weren't for me, crumbly is the only word I could describe them. Slight disappointment because I expected a pad of butter and more than half oz of syrup - I ordered the heart attack special but sadly I don't think this could deliver a heart attack which may make some health conscious people happy lol.
Yes, the prices are high but the brunch prices were standard for the area and you won't find fried chicken this flavorful in any of the other local shops from what I've tried. I no longer live in BedStuy, so finding a place that delivers quality and hot...
Read moreHi! We always ordered food from Stella’s and it’s Amazing! We decided to celebrate life and go to the restaurant first time, we were really excited. But sadly the experience was terrible, we got sit, my partner and me were talking we didn’t notice time but I realized there were tables that got sit after us getting drinks and we didn’t even have water on the tables, that was after 30 minutes. I was ready to leave my partner talked with the server and came to take the order, apologized another person apologizes too I said can I at least have water, I understand when a restaurant is busy I worked in the industry too but it’s disrespectful not to even notice your costumer. Order was take and I realized another 30 minutes have passed and we haven’t received not even our drinks again after half an hour, a total of 1 hour. They saw we were upset and came with the food and drinks right away, at this moment my appetite was gone, my whole mood was changed, our celebration was ruined and we took the food to go, pay our bill and go home! We like to visit a lot of restaurants in the city, specially when they have amazing food, but service has to be there too and sorry to say but it was really disappointing. The fact that they show concern the first time we asked for service, but left us waiting for a whole hour to put water in our table was really unprofessional. You should care about your customers not matter if it’s one single person or a table of 10 people, you should treat them the same way, with the same care...
